@NKUNorseWBB downs Central Arkansas in 72-56 victory

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team took down Central Arkansas, 72-56, on Monday afternoon at BB&T Arena. The Norse move to 2-4 on the year with the victory while the Sugar Bears drop to 1-4.

STATS LEADERS
  • Ally Niece had 14 points on 5-of-13 (38 percent) shooting for the afternoon alongside six rebounds and four assists.
  • Ivy Turner had 13 points, all of which came in the first half. The freshman also contributed six rebounds.
  • Molly Glick rounded out the double-figures club with 11 points while shooting 3-of-7 (43 percent) from beyond the arc.
  • Emmy Souder forced four turnovers in the contest and scored 8 for the Norse on 4-for-6 (67 percent) shooting.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Glick scored a triple on the first possession to get an early burst of Norse scoring kicked off. Turner and Coffey followed the 3-pointer with hard-fought layups to jump out to a 10-4 lead. 
  • Niece hit a pair of jumpers in succession and Glick drilled another three to move the Norse to a 17-6 advantage with four minutes left in the first quarter.
  • NKU went into the second quarter with a 21-14 lead off an outstanding 8-for-11 (73 percent) shooting. The Norse defense was just as stifling in the opening minutes, forcing seven turnovers. 
  • The Norse went on a 15-6 run to begin the second quarter with Turner leading the way. The freshman filled up the box score by getting to the line often to make four free throws and sank a 3-pointer with 2:12 left in the half to make it 36-20 NKU.
  • NKU finished the half with one of the best offensive outputs of its young season, going 13-of-27 (48 percent) from the floor. Turner led the Norse with 13 points, while Garcia and Glick had seven and six, respectively. 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse opened their second half in just as strong of a way as their first. Emmy Souder found an easy bucket after pulling down an offensive board, while Niece scored a jumper and a three to extend the NKU lead to 47-29.
  • Taylor Clos and Grayson Rose followed suit with their own threes to give the Norse a 21-point lead with 5:46 to go in the third.
  • Both teams then locked down on defense as the only scores by either side for came via free throws for the next few minutes.
  • In three quarters of action, the Norse already surpassed their offensive output from a game ago to lead 58-40.
  • NKU kept pace with UCA in the final quarter. Coffey gave NKU a pair of layups and a free throw to begin the final minutes. She also dished over to Glick 4:41 left for a three to make it 68-46 in favor of the Norse. 
  • Niece finished up the game for NKU by getting to the charity stripe twice and hitting another jumper on the left elbow.
GAME NOTES
  • With her trio of 3-pointers in the contest, Glick moves to third all-time in career triples for NKU at 159, tying Michelle Tuchfarber (1997-2001). She also continues to inch toward the 1000-point milestone with 973 career points.
  • Turner continues her hot start as an NKU freshman. Her 13 points mark the third double-digit game of her career and her six rebounds tonight tie her career high.
  • This is the highest scoring output by the Norse this season, with the now-second-highest coming in a 71-69 Norse loss to St. Louis earlier this season.
  • With her perfect 3-for-3 day, Coffey is now shooting 11-for-19 (58 percent) on the season.
