Walton leads @NKUNorseMBB in a 76-54 takedown of Miami (OH)

OXFORD, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball team dropped the Miami RedHawks on Tuesday night, 76-54, at Millet Hall. The Norse move to 6-3 on the season with the win and Miami falls to 4-4.

STATS LEADERS
  • Dantez Walton finished with another spectacular performance of 32 points and eight rebounds on 13-of-20 (47 percent) shooting.
  • Tyler Sharpe was the other Norse in double figures, piling on 18 points on 6-of-15 (40 percent) shooting from the floor. The senior also had three steals to his credit.
  • Adrian Nelson pulled down  a career-high 12 boards and had a perfect 3-for-3 night from the floor for six points.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Miami jumped out to an 8-2 lead to begin the game, but Walton and Adham Eleeda each sank three-pointers by the 15:43 mark to knot things up.
  • The Norse continued their barrage from beyond the arc as both Sharpe and Faulkner hit shots from deep. Then, following a Walton layup, NKU moved up to a 16-10 lead with 9:44 to go in the half.
  • NKU went into the break with a seven-point lead, 29-22, after quick shots in the last minute and a half by Bryant Mocaby and Walton.
  • The Norse finished the half shooting 12-for-30 (40 percent) and stifled the RedHawks with a 7-of-23 (30 percent) clip from the floor.
  • Walton continued his trend of early-season success in the half, piling on 12 points and five boards for NKU.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • To start off the half, Sharpe made a layup and pair of free throws to keep it a seven-point lead for the Norse with 17:09 to go.
  • Miami battled back to within a possession with 14:37 remaining at 33-31, but Walton was there to answer, yet again. The senior hit three-consecutive shots to make it a 40-33 advantage for NKU.
  • The Norse run started by Walton blossomed to 21 NKU points to Miami's four by the eight-minute mark. Nelson, Sharpe and Adheke joined Walton with made baskets, bringing the Norse up to a 54-35 lead.
  • Sharpe and Walton continued to climb the scoreboard as the duo made the next four shots for NKU to further increase the margin to 67-44.
  • Nelson made the last bucket of the night for NKU as Walton, Bryson Langdon and Tre Cobbs cleaned up from the charity stripe to seal the victory.
GAME NOTES
  • NKU finished the game at an even 50 percent (28-for-56) from the floor, the highest against a Division I opponent this year.
  • The Norse had a 16-of-26 clip (62 percent) in the second half. The last time NKU shot better than 60 percent in a half was last season's February 15 contest against Wright State, where it made 61.3 percent (19-of-31).
  • NKU finished 21-of-27 (78 percent) inside the arc.
  • The Norse forced 10 turnovers in the first half alone and 16 total.
  • Opposing teams haven't been able to answer the dominance of  Walton. The Norse senior is averaging 23.1 points and 7.5 rebounds in the last six games. Remove NKU's contest against Midway, where he played just five minutes, and that number balloons even higher to 27.4 points and 8.6 rebounds a contest. Tonight's game was his third 30-point performance in four games.
