HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team lost to No. 2/2 Louisville, 85-57, on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Arena. The Norse drop to 4-5 on the year while the Cardinals move up to 9-1.
STATS LEADERS
- Three Norse tallied double figures in the match. Molly Glick and Carissa Garcia led the team in points, both scoring 13. Garcia also added three rebounds and five assists. Ally Niece was close behind them, finishing with 12 points on 50 percent shooting from the field. She also added three assists to her stat line.
- Emmy Souder and Ivy Turner both pulled down three boards for NKU while also adding six and four points to the scoreboard, respectively.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Turner opened up scoring with a quick transition basket off a long cross-court pass from Niece. Niece and Glick followed with back-to-back buckets giving the Norse a 7-1 lead.
- The Cardinals went on a 9-0 run to gain their largest lead of the half, 22-14, before Glick sunk a two-point jumper to end the first quarter.
- Garcia followed in suit, scoring her own back-to-back triples after subsequent threes from Glick to begin the second quarter, giving the Norse a 28-26 lead.
- Both teams battled hard back and forth, resulting in nine total lead changes throughout the first half.
- NKU finished the half with an impressive shooting game, going 50 percent from both the floor and behind the arc. Glick led the Norse with 11 points, while Garcia and Niece had nine and eight, respectively.
- The Norse trailed the Cardinals 35-37 heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- The Cardinals extended their lead to 57-37 with a scoring run of 20-2 to open up the second half.
- Louisville outscored NKU 48-22 in the second half.
- The Cardinals locked down defensively as the Norse struggled to keep up with their hot shooting in the first half, going 29 percent from the floor and 27 percent from three-point range. Louisville turned on the heat, shooting 61 percent inside the arc, but the Norse were able to hold them to only 36 percent from 3-point range.
GAME NOTES
- NKU shot 38.9 percent from the field, going 21-for-54, while Louisville went 33-for-62 for 53.2 percent.
- The Norse capitalized on the Cardinals' mistakes and scored 17 points off of 17 Louisville turnovers.
- Louisville used its height advantage to outscore the Norse 44-20 in the paint and gain a 42-20 advantage on the boards. The Cardinals converted 19 offensive boards into 14 second-chance points.
