LEXINGTON, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's tennis picked up a point against the No. 23 team in the nation, but ultimately fell 5-1 to Kentucky. The Norse drop to 3-4 overall while the Wildcats improve to 8-1.
Match Notables
- The Wildcats had previously only given up one other point at home, blanking their opponent five times in seven home matches this season. Marshall stole a point from UK in a 6-1 setback on Jan. 16.
- NKU claimed its point in the match with Elizabeth Rozin in the No. 4 spot, who went to tiebreak against Alexis Merrill and came out victorious, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(9). Rozin went 2-0 on the weekend for the Norse.
- Kentucky took the opening point with a pair of 6-1 wins in No. 1 and 2 doubles.
- Margita Sunjic took on No. 94 Justina Mikulskyte in No. 1 singles, falling to her opponent in a 6-2, 6-0 match.
- Taylor Culbertson's match in No. 3 singles was the next to finish as she dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Diana Tkachenko.
- The Wildcats clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win in No. 2 singles as Tiphanie Fiquet took down Maria Koo.
- The match concluded with No. 5 singles, as Anastasia Tkachenko defeated Katja Dijanezevic, 6-2, 6-1.
NKU returns to action by hosting in-state foe Western Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 22. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
