@NKUNorseSB falls to Longwood and UNCG in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Northern Kentucky softball dropped a pair of games at the UNCG Invitational, falling to Longwood, 6-1, before a 5-2 setback to host UNCG. The Norse fall to 1-5 with the losses.
 
Game 1: Longwood 6, NKU 1
 
At the Plate
  • Longwood out-hit the Norse, 7-3.
  • Toree Stalter, Madi Mulder and Jozie Frazier each recorded a hit in the contest.
  • Stalter drove in NKU's lone run off a home run, the first of her career.
 
In the Circle
  • Taylor Ginther pitched 4.1 innings, striking out one and walking two batters. She absorbed the loss and moves to 1-2.
  • Hailey Whitmer spent 1.2 innings in the circle with one strikeout, no walks and one hit allowed.
 
Scoring Summary
  • The game featured quick innings until the fourth inning, with just three combined hits until that point. In the bottom of the fourth with two outs, Longwood had an RBI single followed by a three-run home run to take a 4-0 lead.
  • The Lancers went up 6-0 off another home run, this time driving in a pair of runs.
  • Stalter clubbed the first home run of her career in the top of the sixth, sending one past left center to give NKU its first run of the game.
 
Game 2: UNC Greensboro 5, NKU 2
 
At the Plate
  • The Norse posted a 9-6 advantage in hits over the Spartans, but it was UNCG's three home runs that propelled it to the win.
  • Mulder was a perfect 3-for-3 and Alexis McDaniel joined her in a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.
  • Zahyra McFarland also recorded an RBI, while Kailey Rossiter scored NKU's other run.
 
In the Circle
  • Emily Koperdak pitched 4.0 innings, striking out one batter and walking one. She took the loss and moves to 0-3 on the year.
  • Whitmer tossed the final 2.0 innings, walking three batters and allowing one hit.
 
Scoring Summary
  • UNCG had similar first and fourth innings, leading off with a solo home run before the Norse would retire the next three batters in order.
  • NKU trailed by a 2-1 count after McDaniel singled to center field in the fifth and was driven in off a McFarland single up the middle.
  • The Spartans answered back with an RBI double, followed by a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the frame.
