@NKUNorseWBB caps six-game home winning streak with Senior Day victory

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball sealed a 74-55 win over Cleveland State on Senior Day, with the Norse winning their final six home games of the season. The Norse move to 9-17 overall and 8-8 in Horizon League play while the Vikings drop to 10-18 and 7-10 in Horizon League play.  
 
STAT LEADERS
  • NKU celebrated its lone senior, Taryn Taugher, prior to the game. She finished with four points and a season-best four assists.
  • Taylor Clos led the Norse in points with 17, going 5-for-9 from beyond the arc to tie her career high in 3-pointers made. She also had four assists and three rebounds.
  • Jazmyne Geist tied her career high of 14 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor. The sophomore was just off a double-double with nine rebounds.
  • Molly Glick contributed 13 points for the Norse. She shot 5-of-11 from the field and had three 3-pointers. She has had at least three triples in the past three games.
  • Ally Niece and Grayson Rose both scored eight points. Niece also contributed six rebounds and eight assists while committing zero turnovers, and Grayson added three rebounds for the Norse.
  • Kailey Coffey had her second-straight double-digit rebounding effort, pulling down 10 boards.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • NKU rolled into halftime with a 32-17 lead over Cleveland State thanks to an efficient offense that saw the Norse assist on 10 of their 12 field goals.
  • The Norse began the second quarter with a 21-6 advantage over the Vikings after ending the first quarter on a 17-2 run.
  • NKU dominated in the paint, scoring 14 points while holding Cleveland State to only four.
  • The Norse executed defensively ,holding the Vikings to 20.0 percent from the floor and 11.1 percent from behind the arc. They also led in points from turnovers, 9-2.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse had their highest scoring quarter in the fourth, scoring 25 points to clinch the victory, shooting 71.4 percent from both the floor (10-of-14) and 3-point range (5-of-7).
  • NKU continued to dish the ball out well with 11 assists on 17 made field goals.
  • The Norse bench was prepared to play, scoring 20 points matched to the Vikings' eight.
 
NORSE NOTES
 
  • NKU snapped a five-game losing skid against the Vikings.
  • The Norse outworked the Vikings for a 41-33 advantage in rebounds. However, the Vikings were strong on their own glass with 14 offensive boards, leading to 14 second-chance points.
  • NKU had a lead as large as 27 points in the fourth quarter.
  • The Norse stood out in assists with 21 versus the Vikings' six.
  • NKU recorded six blocks in the game and were not blocked once during the contest. The Norse also had a 36-26 advantage in the paint.
