Kentucky storms back to defeat @NKUNorseBSB, 5-4

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Kentucky on Wednesday evening by a final score of 5-4. The Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to get the victory. NKU falls to 0-7 on the year, while Kentucky improves to 5-3.
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Proctor Mercer got the start on the mound for NKU. He pitched four innings, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks. He also struck out four batters.
  • Kyle Arganbright came on to pitch a scoreless fifth inning for his season debut.
  • Noah Richardson entered the game in the sixth inning, and pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
  • Joe Martin went on the mound in the seventh inning. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He also struck out five batters.
  • Cameron Ross (L, 0-2) came out of the bullpen in the ninth inning. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Kentucky took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Jaren Shelby hit an RBI single to score Ryan Shinn.
  • UK loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Arganbright was able to escape the inning without allowing a run.
  • With one out in the top of the sixth, Marion hit a double for NKU, but he was left stranded.
  • NKU scored four runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-1 lead. Bacon led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Will Haueter walked in the inning, Doersching hit a single to left field to score Bacon. NKU loaded the bases after Hedges' infield single, and Marion stepped up to the plate and hit his second double of the game. Three runs came home on the play to give NKU the 4-1 advantage.
  • In the ninth inning, Kentucky scored four runs to get the 5-4 victory. With one out, Breydon Daniel hit an RBI single in the frame. Later in the frame, the Wildcats loaded the bases. T.J. Collett hit a single to left field, which scored two runs. After an intentional walk, Dalton Reed hit an RBI single up the middle to give the Wildcats the win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Kentucky had an 11-5 advantage on hits in the contest.
  • The Wildcats committed an error, while NKU had none.
  • Marion had his first multi-hit game of the season.

  • NKU travels to VMI this weekend for a three-game series. The series begins on Friday at 3 p.m. in Lexington, Virginia.
