@NKUNorseWBB falls to No. 4 IUPUI in #MotorCityMadness quarterfinals

INDIANAPOLIS– Northern Kentucky women's basketball bowed out of the 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship on Tuesday evening, falling on the road at No. 4 seed IUPUI, 60-44. With the loss, NKU finishes its season at 11-18 after going 10-8 in the Horizon League regular season. IUPUI moves onto the semifinals after picking up its 20th win of the season.
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Taylor Clos led the team in scoring with 13 points and also nabbed a team-high two steals.
  • Molly Glick added 10 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Ally Niece and Grayson Rose each added seven points. Niece paced the team with three assists and Rose had a team-best seven rebounds.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Both teams struggled to score in the opening quarter as NKU connected at 23.1 percent from the floor and IUPUI was not much more at 23.5 percent.
  • The Norse outscored the Jaguars in the second quarter, 14-12, to trail by two points at the half. All 12 of IUPUI's second-quarter points were scored in the paint.
  • Clos scored NKU's last six points of the half to jump out to a team-best eight points at the half.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The two teams traded baskets as the Norse held tight to the Jaguars until IUPUI hit back-to-back triples to go up nine points with 1:42 remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Jags extended their lead even further in the fourth quarter, starting out the period with five field goals on six attempts, going on a 12-0 run. The Norse were held without a field goal until the 5:12 mark.
  • IUPUI had its strongest scoring quarter in the fourth, pouring in 22 points on an 8-for-11 effort from the field. The Jags also kept the game in their favor with an 11-2 rebounding advantage.
 
NORSE NOTES
 
  • IUPUI shot 44.2 percent for the game while the Norse shot 30.6 percent from the field.
  • The Jaguars, which entered the game as the No. 11 team in the nation with regards to rebounding margin, had a 41-25 edge on the boards. IUPUI also outscored the Norse in the paint, 34-22.
  • NKU committed fewer turnovers with just 13 miscues while forcing 16 IUPUI turnovers. The Norse converted 14 points off turnovers.
  • NKU retains the lead in the all-time series, 19-5, but the Jaguars have a 5-2 edge since the two teams transitioned to Division I.
  • The game marked the final career appearance of senior Taryn Taugher. The guard from Freeland, Michigan, finished her career with 500 points, 209 rebounds, 69 assists and ranks eighth in NKU's all-time record book for career free-throw percentage (.809).
  • The Norse finished 10-8 in the Horizon League regular season, which marks the most wins for the program since joining the league in 2015-16.
