Eastern Kentucky takes midweek contest against @NKUNorseBSB

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday by a final score of 17-2. NKU drops to 8-24 on the year, while EKU improves to 20-14.

AT THE PLATE
ON THE MOUND
  • Jake Dennis (L, 1-1) suffered his first loss on the mound this season. He was charged with 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits and two walks. He also struck out two batters.
  • Gunnar Barnard gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk. He also had three strikeouts.
  • Tyler Murphy allowed four runs on four hits and three walks.
  • TJ Graves pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and he struck out three hitters.
  • Joe Martin allowed just a hit in the ninth.

KEY MOMENTS
  • EKU took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. A.J. Lewis hit an RBI double, Logan Thomason hit an RBI single, and Daniel Harris IV added two-run single.
  • The Colonels added two runs in the second inning. Lewis hit a two-run double down the left field line.
  • EKU went ahead 10-0 in the third. Will Johnson and Nick Howie each hit a two-run homer.
  • The Colonels added three runs in the fifth and six innings to extend the lead to 16-0.
  • Michael Brewer hit a sacrifice fly for the Colonels in the seventh to make the score 17-0.
  • NKU got a run back in the bottom half of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Gick scored on a passed ball.
  • The Norse scored another run in the eighth inning. Billy Marion walked in the inning. After a fly out, Gick stepped up to the plate and delivered a single to center field. Marion came home on the play after a fielding error by the EKU center fielder.

GAME NOTES
  • EKU had an 18-4 advantage in hits in the contest.
  • The Norse had three errors, while EKU had two.
  • Gick recorded his first career multi-hit game.
