@NKUNorseMSOC lets in late goal to IUPUI, loses, 2-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's soccer team lost their first Horizon League matchup of 2019, 2-1, to IUPUI on Saturday night at NKU Soccer Stadium.

  • TJ Harris slotted a shot into the goal in the 9th minute. The assist came from Will Hunt.

  • Baj Maan played the entire game, facing ten shots, making five saves and allowing both IUPUI goals.

MATCH SUMMARY

  • NKU's attack was in great shape in the opening minutes as the Norse dominated the possession battle. With most of NKU's players settled into the final third, Hunt sent a pass from the near-side corner of the pitch to the middle of the penalty area, where Harris eagerly waited to get make his first goal of the season.
  • After some substitutions, the IUPUI attack was much better, completely reversing the Norse advantage in the possession battle.
  • In the 37th minute, IUPUI's Gianni Catenacci fielded a corner into the box, with Chris Workman ready to bang a shot into the goal, tying the game.
  • Sam Mason was given a yellow card in the 61st minute.
  • NKU found its footing shortly after the yellow card when Alex Willis had a shot blocked in the 63rd minute.
  • Connor Probert found the best Norse opportunity of the second half when he made it deep into the penalty area, taking a shot from the left side that was ultimately saved.
  • IUPUI's Yan Souza netted the final goal of the night in the 89th minute after getting a pass from Alan Aguilar.

NORSE NOTES

  • Although this was Harris' first goal of the season, he also had a goal in NKU's exhibition matchup against Tiffin, where the Norse won 5-1.
  • Hunt entered the Norse starting lineup for the first time this season.
  • Tonight's game is tied for the lowest Norse shot total on the year with eight. The Norse also only had eight shots in their season opener against Grand Canyon.

  • NKU takes a week off before they start a three-game road trip opens at Cleveland State on September 21. Kickoff for the matchup will be at 7:00 p.m.
