Niagara defeats @NKUNorseMSOC in second overtime, 2-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Niagara on Friday night in double overtime at Niagara Field.

  • Baj Maan faced 10 shots, made a pair of saves and allowed both Niagara goals.

MATCH SUMMARY

  • NKU started with a little bit of rhythmn, drawing several fouls from Niagara and getting a corner kick in the early minutes.

  • Probert played a free kick in the ninth minute deep in the final third. Alex Willis was in the right spot at the right time to tip the ball into the goal.

  • The Norse kept the attack running strong over the next ten minutes, forcing four corners and giving both Probert and Willis opportunities to take shots. 

  • Things soon swung into Niagara's favor as the Purple Eagles found holes in NKU's defense. In the 37th minute, Frederico Cugge tied the game with an unassisted goal. 

  • Niagara kept its momentum going into the second half as it didn't yield a shot on goal to the Norse until the 67th minute. Rikard Lindqvist was close to getting his first goal of the season after sending a ball toward the bottom-left corner of the net, but the shot was ultimately saved. 

  • Both sides struggled to find a goal by the end of regulation, sending the Norse to their second-straight overtime game. Ali Zohar had the only shot on goal by either team. 

  • Zohar was given a red card in the second overtime at the 103rd minute.

  • Niagara's Rodrigo Almeida ended the game with a goal in the 109th minute. He was assisted by Matthew Krucko-Moeller. 

 

NORSE NOTES

  • The Norse have taken 10 or more shots in back-to-back games with at least five being on goal in each. 

  • NKU has taken many a corner flag in respect to their opponents this season, getting 24 corners to its opponents' 11. 

  • Probert has had a hand in each Norse goal this season.
