@NKUNorseWBB posts decisive 88-46 victory over Flames

CHICAGO – Northern Kentucky women's basketball got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with a decisive victory over UIC, 88-46. The Norse move to 9-8 with the win and 3-3 in Horizon League play while the Flames drop to 2-15 (1-5 Horizon).
 
STATS LEADERS
  • Taylor Clos led the Norse in scoring with 19 points, sinking four 3-pointers in the contest.
  • Kailey Coffey added a season-high 18 points on 6-for-7 from both the field and the free-throw line. She also pulled down five rebounds.
  • Emmy Souder posted 14 points and six rebounds.
  • Grayson Rose recorded the second double-double of her career with 12 points and 12 rebounds. She also grabbed a career-high-tying five steals and blocked three shots.
  • Ivy Turner was just off double figures with nine points, also dishing out five assists.
  • Ally Niece led NKU with seven assists on the afternoon.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • The contest started out toughly-contested on both sides, with UIC taking its final lead of the game at 10-8. The Norse then closed out the first quarter on a 12-0 run to establish a 20-10 lead and only continued to build from there.
  • The Norse shot a blistering 71.4 percent from the field in the second quarter, including 9-for-11 from inside the arc, en route to outscoring the Flames, 26-9.
  • At the half, both Souder and Rose had reached double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Rose also stuffed her stat sheet with five rebounds, a pair of blocks and a steal.
  • NKU assisted on 12 of its 17 made field goals, led by five from Niece. The Norse also nabbed seven steals and forced UIC into an additional eight turnovers in the half.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse shot 50.0 percent in the third quarter and were able to keep the Flames at a comfortable distance, outscoring UIC 19-17. NKU then finished off with a strong fourth quarter, keeping UIC to 25.0 percent from the floor and ending the contest on a 7-1 run.
  • Coffey led the Norse with 14 of her 18 points in the second half, while Clos used three triples to bolster her 12-point second-half performance.
  • NKU forced the Flames into another nine turnovers, converting those into 10 points.
GAME NOTES
  • Northern Kentucky has had two players score at least 15 points in three of the last four games.
  • The Norse shot 47.0 percent from the field and held UIC to 32.1 percent.
  • NKU dominated down low, outrebounding the Flames 45-32 and outscoring UIC 42-18 in the paint.
  • UIC was forced into 24 turnovers, which were converted into 34 points for the Norse. Fifteen of those miscues came by way of Norse steals.
  • The Norse assisted on 22 of their 31 field goals.
  • Northern Kentucky is now 6-0 when at least four players score in double digits, including all three of NKU's Horizon League victories.
