Wright State takes down @NKUNorseMBB, 95-63

DAYTON, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball team fell to Wright State, 95-63, on Friday night at the Nutter Center. The loss moves NKU to 14-7 on the year and 6-3 in Horizon League competition. Wright State is now 18-4 and 8-1 in league play.

STATS LEADERS
  • Tyler Sharpe had 18 points on the night to lead NKU on 8-of-14 (57 percent) shooting.
  • Jalen Tate scored 16 points for the Norse. He shot the ball at a strong 7-for-13 clip (54 percent).
  • Bryson Langdon was the other Norse in double figures, also posting 16 points to the scoreboard to go along with a team-high four assists.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Wright State was firing on all cylinders to begin the game, jumping out to a 10-2 lead with the only two NKU points coming off a Tate layup down low.
  • Faulkner and Sharpe ended the early drought with a three-pointer and layup respectively, trimming the deficit to 12-7 at the 15:57 mark.
  • Shots continued falling for the Raiders as their lead ballooned to 31-14 with 8:07 left in the half.
  • The Norse started making headway with 7:04 to go as Tate landed a jumper. Sharpe and Langdon then made it three-consecutive jump shots on ensuing possessions. With 5:09 to go before the break, Wright State lead 34-20.
  • NKU went into halftime trailing the Raiders 48-28. Three scorers were on the cusp of double-figures after 20 minutes of action: Sharpe (9), Tate (8) and Langdon (7).
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Tate started out the half by making a shot before Wright State went on a 13-2 run. The Norse rebounded with a 12-4 run starting with an Adrian Nelson layup with 15:18 left.
  • Running behind, 65-44, the NKU run continued after Langdon hit a triple and hauled in a layup beginning at the 13:49 mark.
  • Adheke and Sharpe then made shots to bring the game back within 20 points at 68-48 with 11:04 to go.
  • Another run by Wright State followed and was capped off with back-to-back three-pointers, pushing the Raider lead to 84-55.
  • Adheke closed out the game for NKU with a layup and dunk at the 2:33 and 1:05 marks, respectively.
GAME NOTES
  • Tate's 16 points are a new season high, moving up his average on the year to 9.9 a contest.
  • Sharpe is now up to 11 games where he has scored 18 or more points.
  • Sharpe is on an efficient run over the last four games. In that span, he's shooting 35-of-61 (57 percent) and an impressive 17-for-35 (49 percent) from three-point land.
  • Tonight's contest is the second occasion where the Norse committed single-digit turnovers. Along with tonight's turnover total of nine, NKU had the same number against Youngstown State on January 16.
