HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team took down Green Bay, 63-43, at BB&T Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Norse move up to 13-9 on the season and to 7-4 in Horizon League play, moving to a three-way tie with Green Bay and Wright State for second in the league standings. Green Bay is now 12-11 on the year and 7-4 in the league.
STATS LEADERS
- Molly Glick led the winning effort with 12 points, which included an outstanding 4-of-5 (80 percent) mark from three-point land.
- Both Emmy Souder and Grayson Rose contributed 10 points to the cause on 4-of-6 (67 percent) and 3-of-6 (50 percent) shooting, respectively. Souder was close to a double-double with her nine boards.
- Ally Niece, Taylor Clos and Ivy Turner also had important additions, scoring nine, seven and nine points, respectively.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Glick heated up quickly, sinking a pair of 3-pointers to go along with a basket by Niece to put NKU up 8-3.
- The three-ball kept falling for the Norse as shots by Carissa Garcia and Clos put NKU out to a 14-3 lead at the 4:57 mark.
- Green Bay found its footing afterward, but Turner piled on six more points as the quarter closed out. After ten minutes of action, the Norse were on top, 22-11.
- The Phoenix fought back with a 12-2 run to start the second quarter. Souder ended the NKU cold streak starting with a layup at the 1:42 mark. The junior then went to the line with 20 seconds left and made a pair of free throws to keep NKU out front, 28-23, at halftime.
- Green Bay was held to just 7-of-27 (26 percent) shooting and a 4-for-13 (31 percent) mark from three-point land.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Northern Kentucky's halftime adjustments proved to be effective as the Norse marched out of the break with an 11-3 run.
- Six of the run's points came through a pair of triples by Souder. Clos capped off the run with a layup with 2:34 left in the third quarter, forcing Green Bay into a timeout.
- Rose finished out the blistering quarter for the Norse with six-straight points. Turner found her down low for a layup at the 1:46 mark. A minute later, she hauled in another basket and then reached the line for two with a couple seconds left.
- NKU carried a 45-30 cushion heading into the final quarter. Clos and Niece reached the line for two apiece to start out the final ten minutes. Niece then sank her first three of the afternoon to push the lead to 16.
- Two of the next three NKU makes were triples by Glick in the closing minutes. The Norse had the game all but wrapped up with a 60-38 lead and 1:29 to go.
GAME NOTES
- This is the second-straight game that the Norse held their opponent under 30.0 percent from the field. Green Bay shot 15-for-52 for 28.8 percent and 4-for-20 (20 percent) from beyond the arc.
- The Norse are now an impressive 10-0 overall and 7-0 in Horizon League action when holding opponents to 60 points or fewer, which has happened in the last five contests.
- NKU's mark from 3-point range today is the second best of year (46.7 percent), narrowly behind 47 percent against Jacksonville State on November 29.
- The win marks just the second time in program history that NKU has defeated Green Bay. The first win was a 62-54 upset of the then-No. 19/20 Phoenix on Dec. 28, 2017.
