@NKUNorseWBB snaps IUPUI’s 13-game win streak in 65-62 Senior Day victory

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team celebrated Molly Glick's final regular-season home game at BB&T Arena with a win against Horizon League-leading IUPUI. The win snaps a 13-game win streak for the Jaguars and marks only the second loss for the team in Horizon League play. The Norse move to 16-10 overall and 10-5 in conference play, while IUPUI shifts to 19-7 overall and 13-2 in the Horizon League.

STATS LEADERS
  • Ivy Turner led all scoring for the Norse with 12 points on the afternoon. The freshman went 4-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from three while adding two rebounds and a steal.
  • Molly Glick used 50 percent shooting from both the floor and beyond the arc to tally 11 points. Glick added three boards, including a key rebound in the final seconds of the game, to go with one assist and one steal.
  • Carissa Garcia recorded 11 points for NKU along with two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
  • Kailey Coffey and Ally Niece bring the total to five Norse scoring in double figures with 10 points apiece. Coffey had a team-high four rebounds with Niece dishing out a team-high five assists.

FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Scoring for the Norse was sparked in the second quarter by an early 3-pointer from Garcia, which got the three-ball pouring in for NKU. Turner and Souder added a three apiece.
  • Field goal percentage for NKU skyrocketed from the first quarter to the second quarter. The Norse went 2-of-12 for a 16.7 percent clip from the floor in the first followed by 6-of-11 shooting, marking a 54.5 field goal percentage for the second quarter.
  • NKU's defense held IUPUI to a mere five points in the second quarter, allowing the team to take a 12-point lead headed into the second half.

SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse used the lead from the half to maintain the advantage, despite IUPUI outscoring NKU in the final quarter, 17-11.
  • With 20 seconds remaining, the Norse held a one-point lead. The Jaguars drove the lane only to meet Grayson Rose in the paint where she collected her third block of the contest. The ball remained with IUPUI underneath the Jaguars basket.
  • The Jaguars missed a jumper and Glick secured the rebound as two seconds were left on the clock. The veteran called a timeout to advance the ball to NKU's frontcourt.
  • Niece was fouled with less than a second to go in the game and sank two free throws to clinch the victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Northern Kentucky is now tied with Wright State for second place in the Horizon League standings.
  • Glick's first three of the game marked her 200th career 3-pointer. Glick is currently sitting in third for all-time made triples and is 13 away from tying Christine Roush's second-place mark.
  • The last time five Norse were in double figures was on Nov. 25, 2017 against Oakland City.
  • This marks the sixth-straight win at BB&T Arena for the Norse, a feat the team completed last season in their final home contests. The Norse will head on the road to conclude the regular season, including a match-up with Wright State that has the possibility of deciding the second seed in the Horizon League, which guarantees a two-round bye.
  • Northern Kentucky added 21 free throws on the afternoon, going 21-of-27. The Norse average 13 made free throws a game. NKU has had a knack for getting to the line this season with over 40 more attempts than its opponent from the charity stripe.

UP NEXT
The Norse travel to Wright State on Thursday, Feb. 20, to take on the Raiders at 7 p.m. ET. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.
