@NKUNorseSB falls to Eastern Illinois in extra innings

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Northern Kentucky softball dropped an eight-inning contest to Eastern Illinois to close out the GWU Softball Tournament on Sunday, 10-6. The Norse fall to 4-5 while the Panthers improve to 7-5.
 
 
At the Plate
  • EIU recorded an 11-9 advantage at the plate. Both teams committed two errors.
  • Toree Stalter had the only multi-hit performance for the Norse, going 2-for-4 with one run scored and one driven in.
  • Alexis McDaniel and Ava Lawson both recorded two RBI, while Taylor Hoover also drove one run in.
  • Josie Frazier scored two runs for NKU and extended her hitting streak to nine games.
 
In the Circle
  • Ashlyn Zuberer got the start for the Norse and moves to 1-2 with the setback. The rookie pitched 7.2 innings, striking out five and walking five.
  • Lauryn Hicks pitched the last out, striking out one and walking one.
 
Scoring Summary
  • Northern Kentucky posted the first run of the contest as Frazier led off the first by drawing a walk. She was then driven in off a McDaniel single to give NKU a quick lead.
  • The Norse added two more runs in the third, as Tatum Biddle led off the inning with a walk while Frazier followed up with a single. Biddle was driven in off a sac fly from Lawson, while Frazier scored thanks to a single by Hoover.
  • The Panthers took the lead in the fourth, plating four runs in the frame. The Norse answered back with two more runs in the bottom of the inning, starting off with a leadoff home run by Stalter. Pinch runner Payton Welch later crossed the plate to put NKU up by a run.
  • The score flipped in favor of the Panthers once more in the fifth courtesy of a two-run homer.
  • NKU then tied the game up at six runs apiece thanks to a solo home run by Lawson in the sixth.
  • EIU used four runs in the eighth inning to take a 10-6 lead, and the Norse were unable to retaliate as NKU was retired in order in the bottom of the frame.
 
 
 
Up Next
  • The Norse head to Carbondale, Illinois, for the Coach B Classic, hosted by Southern Illinois. In addition to the host Salukis, NKU will face Murray State, Purdue Fort Wayne and Creighton, Friday-Sunday, Feb. 28-March 1.
