KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team (0-8, 0-0 HL) fell to No. 24 Tennessee (8-0, 0-0 SEC), 15-1, on Tuesday evening at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Christian Delashmit (W, 1-0) gets his first-ever win for the Volunteers, while Noah Richardson (L, 0-1) has the loss for NKU.
AT THE PLATE
ON THE MOUND
- In his first career start, Richardson threw the opening frame, giving up one run, one hit and a walk.
- Nick Noble worked the mound in the second, allowing a run off of a hit.
- Proctor Mercer went for a third-inning, yielding five runs in as many hits, and walking four.
- TJ Graves tossed for two-thirds of an inning, walking four and giving up an earned run.
- JT McGee gave up four runs, two earned off of three hits in an inning of work.
- Jake Pease put in a couple of innings for NKU, letting go of three runs on four hits.
- Kurt Lange closed for the Norse, giving up just one hit in the final two innings.
KEY MOMENTS
- After a walk and a stolen bag, Tennessee opened the game with a run in the first thanks to a single to left field.
- NKU had a runner in scoring position in the second after Treyvin Moss sent a double down the left field line. A fly out by Wakeham and a foul out by Wagner stranded the runner.
- Tennessee plated a run in the second and then added six in the third to go up, 8-0. The lead extended even further an inning later after four runners circled the diamond.
- The Norse were close to a score in the fifth inning after Wagner walked and Odom blooped one over to right field. Odom followed by stealing his fifth base of the year to have runners on second and third. Unfortunately, the pair was left on base after a strikeout by Brennan Gick and Sam Hedges.
- NKU's first score of the night came at the top-half of the sixth. Leading with a 2-0 count, Murray knocked a pitch toward centerfield for a solo home-run.
- The final three runs of the evening for Tennessee came in during the bottom of the sixth.
- Andrew Bacon reached through a left-field single in the eighth. But, after getting into scoring position thanks to a wild pitch, the Norse infielder was stranded after a Doersching strikeout.
