12-game road trip for @NKUNorseVB ends with sweep of Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Featuring an extremely balanced offensive attack, Northern Kentucky rolled to a three-set victory over Green Bay (25-19, 25-19, 25-19). NKU improves its overall record to 6-6 and its Horizon League mark to 2-1. GB drops to 7-9 overall with a 2-2 league record.

STATS LEADERS
  • Anna Brinkmann and Miranda Wucherer both notched double-doubles in the match, with Brinkmann posting 10 kills and 11 digs while Wucherer added 20 assists and 10 scoops. Wucherer hit .545 in the match without registering an error.
  • Abby Kanakry blasted away at a .692 hitting clip en route to nine kills. She also did not record a hitting error and added six total blocks (one solo, five assisted).
  • With 15 digs on the evening, Anna Burke led all players in the match.
  • NKU's balanced attacking saw five players register at least six kills in the three-set match. Joy Banks added eight terminations behind .467 hitting, while both Reilly Briggs and Wucherer contributed six.
 
FIRST SET SUMMARY   
  • Green Bay staked claim to an early 9-5 lead only to see Northern Kentucky respond with a 10-4 run that forced a Phoenix timeout.
  • With the Norse leading 19-16, Burke took over on the backline with three incredibly tough digs, including a pancake, to win the next point. She finished with five scoops in the stanza.
  • NKU used three-straight Phoenix attack errors, including a block assist from Brinkmann and Kanakry to end the set, 25-19.
  • NKU hit a scintillating .444, terminating 13 attacks with just one error. Brinkmann and Kanakry led the way with three kills each, while Briggs, Wucherer, and Banks added two kills.
  • Green Bay posted 15 kills, but was also forced into seven errors thanks to three Northern Kentucky blocks.
 
SECOND SET SUMMARY   
  • For the second-straight stanza, Northern Kentucky walked away with a 25-19 decision.
  • NKU continued its torrid hitting pace with 15 kills at a .382 clip.
  • GB improved its hitting percentage to .265 with 14 kills, but still committed five errors compared to just two for the Norse.
  • The Norse also registered two aces and three more blocks to their total.
  • Brinkmann added four more kills on the offensive side, while Kanakry contributed two of her blocks.
 
THIRD SET SUMMARY 
  • Tied at 3-apiece, Briggs and Banks rattled off three Norse points with two kills coming off of the right arm of Banks.
  • NKU maintained the advantage through 10-7, forcing a GB timeout.
  • Emerging from the timeout, Northern Kentucky scored the next three points as well, resulting in Green Bay's second timeout.
  • The Phoenix attempted to mount a rally, cutting the deficit back to four at one point, but the Norse closed it out 25-19.
  • Banks warmed up in the set, tallying four kills to lead NKU.
  • Burke controlled the back row with her seven digs.
 
MATCH NOTES   
  • With 43 kills and season-low six hitting errors, the Norse terminated at a season-best .385 clip
  • NKU's .385 hitting percentage is its highest since converting at a .390 pace against Cincinnati on Feb. 21, 2021.
  • Wucherer's double-double is the fourth of the season for the senior. She now has 36 double-doubles for her career.
  • Brinkmann now has eight double-doubles on the year and 35 in her career.
  • Five Norse hit over .300 in the match, led by Kanakry's .692. Wucherer (.545), Banks (.467), Natalie Hardig (.333) and Brinkmann (.308) joined her.
 
NEXT UP 
Following 12-straight road matches to open the season, Northern Kentucky finally plays its first contest in Regents Hall this season after Sunday's match that was scheduled at UIC has been canceled. The Norse host Robert Morris on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m.
