YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team was taken down by Youngstown State 1-0 Sunday afternoon on the road. NKU falls to 8-4-2 on the year, and 6-1-0 in Horizon League play. YSU improves to 2-8-4 overall and 2-2-3 in conference.

"Every match in the Horizon League is a challenging match and today was no different. Youngstown State earned the victory today. I strongly believe in our group. I have no doubt we will bounce back and learn valuable lessons from today.

· Brooklyn Kirkpatrick (2-2-2) started in goal for Youngstown State, who also totaled one save after facing 11 total shots.

· NKU posted the opening shot of the contest in the opening minute as
Madelyn Koewler missed high.
· Youngstown State's first attempt on goal came in the 9' with a shot from Regan LaVigna.

Macy Harper recorded the next offensive attempt for the Norse in the 19' that missed high and right.
· YSU took a 1-0 lead in the 21' after Weigel netted a goal with the assist from Appolonia.
· NKU did not see another shot until the 41' with a strike from
Allison King that missed left.
· The Penguins finished off the opening half with a shot in the 43' that missed high.
· Northern Kentucky saw its first shot of the second half in the 50' but
Sofia Wilmes could not connect.
· NKU posted back-to-back shot attempts in the 68' as
Emma McSwigan and
Kaya Vogt could not convert their chances on goal.
· NKU made a final attempt on the YSU goal in the 88' as Koewler ripped a shot toward the bottom of the goal but it was saved by Kirkpatrick.
Norse Notes
· NKU sees its seven-game winning streak snapped. The Norse had not been defeated since Sept. 2 as well.
· NKU out-shot the Penguins 11-9 overall however Youngstown State tallied more shots on goal than the Norse, 2-1 overall.
· The Norse saw three players total two shots today, which included Wilmes, Koewler, and McSwigan.

Northern Kentucky returns home on Thursday, Oct. 14 as the Norse continue Horizon League action from NKU Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
