HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky volleyball continued its winning ways with a three-set win (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) against visiting IUPUI on Saturday at Regents Hall. The Norse improve to a 9-6 record, including a 5-1 mark in the Horizon League. IUPUI falls to 2-17 overall and are still winless in eight league matches.
STATS LEADERS
- Anna Brinkmann posted her ninth double-double of the season after notching 12 kills and 13 digs on the afternoon.
- Northern Kentucky's middle blockers were terrific, with Abby Kanakry, Sequoia Hunt and Natalie Hardig combining for 17 kills on 23 attacks without committing an error for a .739 hitting percentage between the trio. Kanakry registered eight of the terminations, Hunt added six and Hardig contributed three.
- Hunt also registered seven blocks in the contest.
- Anna Burke picked up a match-high 19 digs.
- Miranda Wucherer and Katy Yopko each distributed 20 assists.
- Briana Brown paced the Jaguars with 10 kills and 11 digs.
FIRST SET SUMMARY
- Northern Kentucky methodically pulled away to a 15-9 advantage headed into the media timeout.
- The Norse continued to extend their lead to 20-13, forcing a Jaguars' timeout and eventually went on to a 25-17 decision.
- NKU registered more kills, 13-9, and fewer errors, 8-4, resulting in a .333-.030 advantage in hitting percentage.
- Hunt led the net defense with three blocks, while Briggs provided the offense with five kills.
- Brinkmann set the tone in the back row with six digs.
SECOND SET SUMMARY
- Similar to set No. 1, the Norse worked themselves out to a 16-6 lead and forced the Jaguars to use both timeouts.
- Hardig provided a spark down the stretch, terminating three attacks in the final eight points of the set to help NKU close it out, 25-17.
- The Norse hit .308 in the set with 17 kills and limited the Jaguars to eight kills and just a .079 hitting percentage.
- Brinkmann went on a tear in the set, tallying seven kills and an ace.
- Burke dominated the back line to the tune of 13 digs.
THIRD SET SUMMARY
- Northern Kentucky raced out to leads of 11-5 and 19-11 leading to IUPUI calling timeouts at both points in the set.
- Five Norse registered a kill and all five registered multiple terminations. Brinkmann paced the team with four in the stanza with Joy Banks and Hunt adding three apiece and Wucherer and Kanakry contributing two each.
- Three of Hunt's blocks came in the stanza as well.
- The Norse defense helped force the Jaguars into a .000 hitting percentage with eight kills and eight errors.
MATCH NOTES
- For the match, Northern Kentucky held advantages in terminations (49-44), digs (49-40) and blocks (8.0-2.0).
- Defense proved pivotal with NKU holding IUPUI to just .038 hitting in the match, marking the lowest hitting percentage allowed by the Norse this season.
- With a .287 hitting percentage today, Northern Kentucky is now a perfect 6-0 when hitting above .250 in a match.
