HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball team governed the entire game against Canisius at BB&T arena, 75-62. With the win, NKU improves to 3-5 on the year, while the Golden Griffins slide to 2-8. 

STATS LEADERS  

  • Marques Warrick led the Norse in the scoring column, totaling 30 points. He went 4-of-6 (67 percent) on threes.  
  • Adrian Nelson secured a double-figure rebounding game with a total of 14, with 10 on the defensive side and four offensive.  
  • Sam Vinson went 7-of-10 (70 percent) from the field and contributed 17 points. He also had five rebounds, two steals and one assist. 
  • Trevon Faulkner led the Norse in steals with three and added 14 points in his 29 minutes of play. He had four rebounds and went 5-of-11 (46 percent) from the field.  
FIRST HALF SUMMARY  
  • Faulkner started off the game with a steal and an assist to Vinson. Vinson secured his first 3-pointer of the night, which gave the Norse the lead 3-0. 
  • The Norse underwent a 9-2 scoring run that was catalyzed by Vinson's lay-in and contributed by two lay-ups from Warrick, a turnaround jumper from Faulkner, and another three from Vinson.  
  • With 10:41 minutes left in the half, Faulkner sunk one in from behind-the-arc. The Norse continued their lead, 22-14. 
  • At the 9:36 mark, Nelson grabbed his third offensive rebound of the night which allowed Faulkner to convert on the and-one.  
  • Warrick made his first splash from behind-the-arc, extending the Norse lead to 26-20. 
  • With only four minutes remaining in the half, Trey Robinson's turn around was good. 
  • Vinson had a crowd-roaring three-point buzzer beater. The Norse ended the first half with the double-digit advantage, 38-28. 
  • The Norse had a total of 21 rebounds in the first half, compared to just 15 for the Griffs.

SECOND HALF SUMMARY  
  • Nelson kicked off the half with a free throw, to see NKU up 39-28. 
  • Battling near the net, Vinson came out on top with a jumper. 
  • With 15:27 left to go, Robinson assisted Warrick with a well-executed three. 
  • NKU held Canisius scoreless four minutes and twenty-eight seconds and went on a 6-0 run. The run was fueled by Vinson's lay-up, Warrick's three, and Faulkner's free throw. 
  • At the 9:58 mark, Warrick topped off both free throws. Followed by a lay-up nearly a minute later. The Norse still held Canisius at a disadvantage, 54-46. 
  • On Robinson's fourth dish of the night, Warrick plunged a downtown shot to give the Norse an 11-point lead, 59-48.
  • With 4:12 remaining in the game, Warrick came in hot with a three-pointer which was assisted by Jake Evans. Nearly 30 seconds later, Warrick stained the net again with another 3-pointer that was served up by Vinson.
  • The Norse ended the game comfortably with a layup by Nelson to secure the 75-62 win.

GAME NOTES  
  • Warrick had a career high 30 points in the competition tonight. His previous high was on January 9th, 2021, against Cleveland State with a total of 25 points.  
  • The last Norse player to score at least 30 points in a match was against IUPUI on February 14th, 2020, with Jalen Tate contributing 31 points.  
  • Vinson, Warrick and Faulkner combined for 22-of-35 (63 percent) from the field to help the Norse to victory.  
  • Vinson's 17 points tied his career-high in a Norse uniform. He previously netted 17 points against Eastern Michigan earlier this season.  
  • The Norse shot 50.9 percent from the field, which is the second time this season they shot 50 percent (27-of-53) or better from the field.
