HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team advances to the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament with a 68-54 first round victory over Robert Morris on Thursday night. NKU continues its season with an 8-10 record on the year, while RMU end its season at 4-13.
STATS LEADERS
- Lindsey Duvall added two more points to her previous career high with a 29-point performance against RMU. She knocked down 11-of-16 (69 percent) shots from the floor and went 2-of-4 (50 percent) from deep range. Duvall capped off her night with 14 rebounds to warrant her sixth double-double on the year.
- Kailey Coffey scored 10 points on 4-of-6 (67 percent) shooting to accompany seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.
- Ivy Turner matched Coffey's scoring column with 10 points to her name. She added two rebounds and an assist.
- Grayson Rose secured eight rebounds, two on the offensive end, and seven points.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The Colonials came out with the early advantage, leading 11-5 with 1:36 left in the first quarter. The Norse ended the quarter with a pair of Duvall free throws and a Rose three to close out all scoring for either side and tighten the score to a one-point game in favor of RMU, 11-10.
- NKU dropped a 10-0 run on RMU from the 9:21 mark until 4:37 remained in the first half to leap ahead to a 22-15 lead. The span featured three two-point field goals from Duvall, Turner free throws, an Igo layup and a Coffey jumper.
- The Norse extended its lead to a 10-point game off a Coffey steal and bucket with 1:06 remaining in the half.
- Duvall drained the final field goal of the half to give NKU the 31-19 advantage headed into the locker room.
- NKU shot at a 69 percent clip (9-of-13) from the field in the second quarter.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- NKU amassed a 20-point lead as Carissa Garcia let it rain from deep, putting the game at a 40-20 score with 5:17 remaining in the third quarter.
- To open the fourth quarter, Duvall dropped two buckets from beyond the arc in a 39 second span from 8:09 to 7:30. The Norse maintained a healthy lead, 54-35.
- Ellie Taylor nabbed a quick five points late in the fourth quarter to secure a new career high and keep NKU's lead at 18 points with 2:29 to play.
- The Norse won the rebounding battle 37-23 on the night.
GAME NOTES
- Duvall's 29-point performance marks the highest scoring total an NKU player has achieved this season. Duvall and Coffey had each scored 27 points earlier this year on back-to-back nights at Oakland with Duvall's on Feb. 19 and Coffey's on Feb. 20.
- The Norse shot 53 percent from the field against the Colonials. The 50-percent threshold has only been eclipsed one other game this year on Dec. 20 with a 56 percent showing against Purdue Fort Wayne.
- NKU won the rebounding battle 37-23 on the night. Coffey and Duvall are tied at 127 rebounds apiece on the year.
