HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky softball closed out its second day of conference play with a split against Green Bay. The split moves both teams to 2-2 in the Horizon League and sees NKU move to 3-9 while Green Bay rises to 7-5.
Game 1: NKU 3, Green Bay 2
At the Plate
- Josie Frazier, Ella LeMonier, and Jordan Jenknins were the only players to earn hits. Frazier finished with three, LeMonier had two and Jenkins had one.
- Frazier finished 3-for-4 with an RBI ad run scored.
- Ava Lawson and LeMonier also scored, while Kendyl McKeough and Jenkins drove in the other runs.
In the Circle
- Lauryn Hicks picked up her fifth start of the season and second of the weekend.
- Throwing all seven innings, Hicks registered seven strikeouts, four walks and gave up only three hits.
- Over the past two games started against Green Bay, Hicks fanned 18 Phoenix.
- Hicks picked up the win and moves to 3-4 on the year.
Scoring Summary
- Green Bay earned the first run by way of an RBI double to left field in the second inning.
- Three batters later, the Phoenix utilized a triple to extend their lead.
- The Norse responded with one run in the bottom of the second. Lawson walked to start the inning and Madi Mulder reached based courtesy of a throwing error to give the Norse a pair of runners.
- After Jenna O'Hair walked to load the bases, Frazier singled to left and drove home Lawson, making it 2-1 to Green Bay.
- Kendyl McKeough had an RBI groundout in the fifth, driving in LeMonier to tie the game. LeMonier tripled to right field with one out to set up McKeough.
- NKU then applied the pressure in the home half of the seventh. Frazier doubled to open things up and LeMonier followed with a bunt single that also advanced Frazier. McKeough then reached on a fielder's choice to load the bags.
- Jenkins won the game for the Norse with a single up the middle that drove in Frazier.
Game 2: Green Bay 4, NKU 3
At the Plate
- LeMonier totaled three hits in a 3-of-4 performance at the plate. She also reached home twice, scoring two of the three runs for the Norse.
- Frazier, Mulder, McKeough and O'Hair all finished with hits as well.
- Maddie Lacer tripled to center field in the bottom of the sixth, giving her three hits on the season, all of which have been of the multi-base variety.
In the Circle
- Caitlin Karo earned her second start of the series and her fifth of the season.
- She pitched the entire game, allowing four runs, only two of which were earned.
- She registered four strikeouts and allowed a pair of walks.
- Karo moves to 0-4 on the year.
Scoring Summary
- NKU struck first. LeMonier and Mulder clubbed back-to-back doubles, the latter of which provided Mulder with an RBI.
- Green Bay responded in its half of the third with a 2-RBI single up the middle.
- Not to be outdone, McKeough earned a 2-RBI double of her own with a line drive to center field that gave NKU the lead, 3-2. To set up McKeough, Frazier and LeMonier opened the inning with consecutive singles and advanced to third and second, respectively, following a passed ball.
- With two outs in the top of the fifth, the Phoenix scored two runs by way of an RBI double and an RBI single, respectively.
- NKU put runners on first and second with one out in the final frame, but was unable to plate the game-tying run.

The Norse will head to Rochester, Michigan, to take on Oakland in a four-game series. The series will take place on Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20. Friday's match times are slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., while Saturday's matches will see 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. start times.
