@NKUNorseBSB routs Oakland, 18-5

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky baseball team (5-10, 3-5 Horizon League) routed Oakland (7-8, 1-3 Horizon League), 18-5, on Sunday afternoon at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex. The win also gives NKU the series win, 3-1.
AT THE PLATE
  • Bryce Thomas was a perfect 3-for-3 on the afternoon, having a home run and three RBIs.
  • Michael Hall went 3-for-5 with a home run, driving in two.
  • Treyvin Moss rounded out the Norse with three hits, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Andrew Bacon continued his strong weekend, ending the day at 2-for-3. He had a double and a triple, as well as a trio of runs batted in.
  • Jackson Haas was 2-for-4 with a couple of RBIs to his name.
  • Sam Hedges (1-for-3, RBI), Brennan Gick (1-for-2, RBI) and Noah Fisher (1-for-2, RBI) each registered a hit.
ON THE MOUND
  • Noah Richardson threw the first four innings for NKU, allowing just one run on five hits and five walks, while also delivering five strikeouts.
  • Kaleb Meeks (W, 1-0) delivered a scoreless inning of relief.
  • Bryce Smith wrapped up the final four innings, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk.
KEY MOMENTS
  • In the bottom of the first, Hedges reached on an error by the shortstop and Bacon brought him home with a triple for the first score of the afternoon.
  • Bacon came home with a right-field single from Haas, making it 2-0, Norse.
  • Oakland plated one in the top of the second.
  • Moss singled to short and Odom, on through fielder's choice, was brought home by a Hedges double to begin the bottom of the second.
  • With the bases loaded later in the inning, Thomas, who was hit by a pitch, came home through a balk.
  • Bacon cleaned up with a double down the left-field line, scoring an intentionally-walked Doersching and Hedges. A single by Hall and a wild pitch brought Bacon home. Finally, to end the inning, a Moss single scored Hall, bringing the Norse up, 8-1.
  • NKU increased its advantage by another four runs in the third. To lead off, Odom was hit by a pitch, Thomas singled through the right side, and Hedges was also hit by a pitch, respectively, to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Odom, and after Doersching walked, Thomas came home via a passed ball.
  • Bacon became the third batter to be hit by a pitch in the third, loading the bases. A walk from Hall followed, scoring Hedges, and Haas hit into a double play, but did plate Doersching in the process.
  • The 12-1 lead remained until the fifth inning, where the Norse added five more thanks mainly to a home run by Hall, a double by Fisher and a three-run homer by Thomas.
  • Oakland tacked on two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh, respectively, to trim the deficit to 17-4.
  • Walks from Liam McFadden-Ackman and Haas, followed by a single to left by Gick gave NKU its final run of the day.
  • Oakland had one more run in the top of the ninth.
UP NEXT
  • The Norse continue their homestand next weekend against Milwaukee. The first of a four-game series will begin on Friday at noon. All four games will be streamed on ESPN+.
