HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky volleyball team improves to a four-game win streak with its four-set triumph (25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 27-25) over Milwaukee on Monday night. The Norse improves to 7-3 overall and 6-3 in Horizon League action and Milwaukee falls to 4-5 on the season and in league play.
STATS LEADERS
- Anna Brinkmann (15), Abby Kanakry (11) and Reilly Briggs (10) found double digits in the kills column. Kanakry was most efficient, terminating 11 of her 18 attacks with a .556 percentage.
- Miranda Wucherer was tied for the most assists on the night with 23 and Katy Yopko followed closely with 22 of her own.
- Brinkmann led the Norse with 26 digs. Following Brinkmann was Ashton Terrill joining the 20-dig mark with 22, while Wucherer added 15.
FIRST SET SUMMARY
- The Panthers jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Norse with two quick kills to begin the match.
- Tied at 12, NKU scored seven of the next eight points in the set to pull ahead 19-13.
- Northern Kentucky had four blocks and two aces compared to Milwaukee's one and none, respectively.
- NKU rode a .295 hitting percentage en route to a 25-20 win of the first set.
SECOND SET SUMMARY
- The second set was competitive with the score being all-square at 13 different points throughout the set, the latest tie at 23-23.
- The Norse were able to claim a four-point run with Wucherer serving that launched NKU from a 9-7 deficit to an 11-9 advantage.
- Despite the close matchup, the Panthers ultimately notched the final two points of the set with a kill and an ace, to give Milwaukee the 25-23 set.
- Northern Kentucky's hitting percentage was .353 to Milwaukee's .273.
- Kanakry had five swings in the set and converted all five into kills.
THIRD SET SUMMARY
- Northern Kentucky allowed Milwaukee a two-point inch at 10-8 before going on a 5-0 run to put the set at 13-10 in favor of the Norse.
- The run was enough for the Panthers to call a timeout and to add two-straight points following the break. The Norse quickly responded with six-straight of their own, ending with a Briggs kill to put the score at 19-12.
- Brinkmann gave the third set to NKU, 25-20, with a final kill. She registered five kills in the frame.
FOURTH SET SUMMARY
- Milwaukee sat at a 20-16 advantage late in the fourth set, but NKU fired back with a 7-1 spurt to capture a 22-21 lead.
- MKE was able to tie the score at 24 and then again at 25.
- NKU tallied five blocks compared to Milwaukee's two and the Norse served the only two aces of the set.
- However, Northern Kentucky was able to close out the match at 27-25 thanks to a serving error an block by Wucherer and Allie Siefke.
MATCH NOTES
- The Norse finished the match with a 12.0-4.0 advantage in blocks.
- Milwaukee was limited to .167 hitting, while Northern Kentucky terminated a .235 clip for the match.
- NKU has now won seven of its last eight matches.
- Brinkmann and Wucherer closed the match with double-doubles, giving them five and six on the season, respectively.
