HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky went 1-1 in a Friday afternoon doubleheader against Purdue Fort Wayne, winning game one, 7-3, before falling, 1-0, in game two's pitcher's duel. The Norse sit at 8-20 on the year (7-13 Horizon), while the Mastodons are 7-20 (6-17 Horizon).
Game 1: NKU 7, PFW 3
At the Plate
- Madi Mulder and Jenna O'Hair both went 2-for-2 at the dish. Mulder tripled, her second of the season, singled, scored twice and drove in two runs. O'Hair ripped two doubles, both coming in NKU's big third inning. She pushed one run across the plate and scored once herself.
- Josie Frazier also collected a pair of hits in a 2-for-4 effort.
- Ella LeMonier had NKU's seventh hit in the game.
In the Circle
- Caitlin Karo got the start for the Norse. She tossed the first inning, allowing one run on one hit. She did not factor into the decision.
- Faith Howard entered in relief, pitching the final 6.0 innings. She allowed two runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out three Mastodons.
- Howard picked up the win and moved to 1-3 on the season.
- PFW's Lauren McConnell started and took the loss, falling to 1-5 on the season. She allowed seven runs, only five of which were earned, on seven hits and two walks.
- Jadelyn Johnson worked the final 3.0 innings. She struck out two and walked one without allowing a run.
Scoring Summary
- Purdue Fort Wayne struck first with solo runs in both the first and second innings. Madeline Swart doubled to open the game and was driven in by Olivia Stansbury courtesy of a sac fly. In the second, Rachel Everson singled to bring home Kyndell Ethridge.
- Northern Kentucky got one back in its half of the second. Mulder tripled and scored on Maddie Lacer's flyout.
- The Mastodons got the run back in their next at-bat as Stansbury drove in Swart for the second time of the game.
- Floodgates opened for the Norse in the bottom of the third, as 13 batters came to the plate and NKU put a six-spot on the scoreboard to take a 7-3 lead.
- O'Hair doubled to open the inning and Frazier followed with a single. Lawson then drew a one-out walk to load the bags.
- The first run scored on a four-pitch, RBI-walk drawn by McKeough. Then, Mulder drove in two with a single to center field.
- Lacer was hit by a pitch and McKeough scored on a wild pitch.
- Tatum Biddle then reached on a fielding error, allowing Mulder to score.
- O'Hair clubbed her second double of the inning, sending Lacer around for the Norse's sixth run of the frame.
Game 2: NKU 0, PFW 1
At the Plate
- LeMonier belted a pair of hits in a 2-for-3 effort.
- McKeough, Mulder and Lacer also recorded hits.
In the Circle
- Starting in the circle for the Norse was Madisyn Eads.
- Eads carried a perfect game through 4.2 innings before walking PFW's Kennedy Steele. Her no-hit bid ended with one out in the six.
- Eads went the distance, allowing one run on four hits in the losing effort (1-2)
- Shaina Eyre earned the nod for Purdue Fort Wayne. She earned the win, moving to 5-10, after tossing the complete-game shutout. The Norse registered five hits and a pair of walks against Eyre.
Scoring Summary
- Northern Kentucky threatened in the first after loading the bases. Singles by LeMonier and McKeough sandwiched Lawson's walk. Eyre worked out of the jam, inducing a force out at home and ground out to end the threat.
- Lacer knocked a leadoff single in the second, but the Norse were only able advance her to second.
- NKU also had singles to open the fourth and fifth frames. However, Eyre continued to shut the door.
- PFW broke through with a single from Lexi Smalarz and an RBI double by Meagan Mullaney.
- A pair of hits from the Mastodons in the seventh had them threatening once more, but it was Eads turn to shut the door.
- However, the Norse weren't able to mount the comeback in the home half of the seventh.

The Norse and Mastodons return to the diamond for another doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of game one is slated for 11 a.m., at Grein Field.
