@NKUNorseSB splits day one doubleheader with IUPUI

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Friday afternoon's doubleheader for Northern Kentucky versus IUPUI ended in a split, as the Jaguars took game one, 11-1, before the Norse rebounded to win game two, 2-1. NKU is now 10-22 on the season and 9-15 in Horizon League play, while IUPUI sits at 11-23 overall with a 9-16 mark against league foes.

At the Plate  In the Circle 
  • Faith Howard earned the start and worked the first 3.0 innings. She allowed five runs, four of which were earned, on six hits and three walks in the losing effort (2-4).
  • Caitlin Karo worked 1.2 innings of relief. IUPUI converted four hits and two walks into a pair of earned runs.
  • Sydni Barnes worked the final third of an inning, giving up four runs.
  • Bailey Johnson worked into the third for IUPUI, tossing 2.0 innings and giving up 1 run on four hits, before giving way to Lexi Lucas without getting a Norse out in the frame.
  • Lucas picked up the win after working the final 3.0 innings without allowing a run.
 
Scoring Summary 
  • A pair of sacrifice flies plated two runs for IUPUI in the top of the second.
  • The Jaguars then put a four-spot on the board in the third, using five singles and a double, to take a 6-0 lead.
  • The Norse loaded the bases with no outs in the home half of the third on three-consecutive singles by Biddle, Frazier and LeMonier. Biddle scored on a sac fly from Ava Lawson, but IUPUI avoided further damage.
  • An RBI-single in the fourth got the run back for the Jaguars.
  • IUPUI then put its second four-run inning on the board in the fifth to reach the final 11-1 score.

At the Plate 
  • LeMonier, Lawson, Jenkins and Margelot collected hits in the contest, with Lawson's being of the two-base variety.
     
In the Circle 
  • Getting the nod in the circle was Madisyn Eads and she tossed a complete-game for the win, improving to 2-2 on the year.
  • Eads allowed just one run on eight hits, while striking out a season-best eight batters and issuing just one free pass.
  • IUPUI's Jennah Speth took the loss and falls to 5-11. NKU collected four hits off Speth and scored two runs, only one of which was earned. She also struck out eight batters.
 
Scoring Summary 
  • NKU broke through first, scoring in the opening inning. Frazier drew a lead-off walk and eventually scored on Lawson's hard-hit ball that the Jaguars' first baseman misplayed.
  • An odd, double-play sacrifice fly plated a run for IUPUI and ended the top of the second, as the Jaguars evened the score at one.
  • Jenkins drew a lead-off walk to begin the second. Natalia Lozada, who was pinch running for Jenkins, advanced to third on a single from Margelot and sac bunt by O'Hair. She then scored on Frazier's RBI groundout.

The backend doubleheader of the four-game set between Northern Kentucky and IUPUI is slated to begin at noon on Sunday, April 25.
