FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (10-13, 8-8 Horizon League) split a doubleheader with Purdue Fort Wayne (9-13, 6-10 Horizon League) on Friday Parkview Field.
GAME 1: Northern Kentucky 11, Purdue Fort Wayne 10
AT THE PLATE
- Noah Fisher (1-for-1, RBI) blasted a solo-homer in a pinch-hit performance.
- Treyvin Moss was also 1-for-1 with a triple to go along with a couple walks, snagging an RBI in the game.
- Josh Romans and Andrew Bacon were each 1-for-3 with an RBI apiece.
- Michael Hall and Sam Hedges both went 1-for-4, respectively, for the other two Norse hits.
- Eight different Norse reached ball-four in the count for a total of 12 free passes in the game.
ON THE MOUND
- Kyle Klingenbeck (W, 3-2) started things out for NKU, going the first 4.1 innings. He allowed five runs on five hits and six walks. He also punched six out.
- Nick Noble threw nine pitches of relief before being retired. He allowed a single walk.
- J.T. McGee went 1.1 innings, allowing five runs on four hits.
- Tyler Ollier (S, 3) picked up the save, tossing the final 1.1 innings of the one-run game, giving up just one hit.
KEY MOMENTS
- NKU loaded the bases in the second inning with three-straight walks to lead off. After a McFadden-Ackman strikeout, Romans walked as well to get the first run of the day.
- A Hedges single and another walk, this time by Doersching, added two more runs for NKU.
- Bacon, Haas and Moss were also patient, receiving their own ball-four calls, extending the early Norse advantage to 6-0.
- Purdue Fort Wayne fired back with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the second.
- Romans singled up the middle and stole second, while Doersching was intentionally walked to begin the fifth. Andrew Bacon then put the ball into play and reached through a fielding error by the Mastodons' right fielder. Both Doersching and Romans scored on the play.
- Hall plated Bacon on the next at-bat, smacking a double down the left-field line and giving the Norse a 9-4 edge.
- Purdue Fort Wayne had another run come in during its half of the fifth.
- In the sixth, Moss led off with a triple to right, scoring on a passed ball with Billy Marion at the plate in the next at-bat. A pinch-hitting Fisher then belted a homer toward left-center, making it an 11-5 game.
- Purdue Fort Wayne added five more runs in the sixth to keep within striking distance.
GAME 2: Purdue Fort Wayne 9, Northern Kentucky 8
AT THE PLATE
- Marion (2-for-4, BB, RBI) and Moss (2-for-5, 2 RBI) each registered a pair of hits.
- Bryce Thomas went 1-for-4 in the game, driving in two from the DH slot.
- Romans (1-for-2), Jayden Wakeham (1-for-3, RBI), Bacon (1-for-4, RBI) and Doersching (1-for-4) also had a hit apiece.
ON THE MOUND
- Bryson Lonsbury went the first four innings of the contest. He gave up seven runs on nine hits.
- Tyson Shaw worked an inning of scoreless relief, allowing just a hit and striking out one.
- The Norse had two scoreless frames thanks to Kaleb Meeks. He allowed two hits and three walks in that span.
- Blaine Walters threw for one inning, allowing one earned on two hits and a walk.
- Tyler Ollier (L, 0-2) faced the final three batters.
KEY MOMENTS
- Purdue Fort Wayne put three runs on the board in the first inning.
- Back-to-back singles to open the second by Bacon and Marion gave the Norse one runner in scoring position, while a Wakeham groundout scored Bacon.
- Fisher and Romans were both hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Thomas and Moss then contributed singles to score four more runs, giving NKU the 5-3 advantage.
- The Mastodons fought back with another run in their half of the second.
- Marion led off the third with a walk and promptly stole second. He made it home for NKU's sixth run of the day off a wild pitch.
- Three more runs came in for Purdue Fort Wayne in the fourth, giving the Mastodons a 7-6 lead.
- Moss singled and Bacon replaced him on first base after he grounded into a fielder's choice in the seventh inning. Marion then doubled to left centerfield to tie the game.
- A leadoff triple by the Mastodons put the Norse down a run in the eighth inning, as a single brought the runner home.
- The Norse weren't done yet. Hedges walked and Doersching singled to lead off the ninth, followed by Bacon putting air on the ball toward right field for the sacrifice fly.
- Purdue Fort Wayne loaded the bases in the ninth with a walk, a throwing error on a fielder's choice and an intentional walk. The Mastodons then held on with a 3-1 count to walk it off with another walk.

- NKU is on the road again next weekend when they face UIC in a four-game set. Game one will take place at 5:05 p.m. ET.
