CHICAGO – Northern Kentucky (10-14 Overall, 8-9 Horizon League) baseball fell, 15-11, to UIC (9-15 Overall, 8-9 Horizon League) on Friday night at Curtis Granderson Stadium. 

AT THE PLATE 

ON THE MOUND 

  • J.T. McGee (L, 1-1) started on the mound for the Norse. This is his fifth appearance on the season and his first start. 
  • McGee faced seven batters and gave up four runs tossing 0.2 innings. 
  • Nick Noble replaced McGee in the first inning. 
  • Noble tossed a respectable 1.2 innings, gave up a pair of runs and fanned four Flams along the way. 
  • Tyson Shaw was the third Norse to see the mound, coming on with one out in the third. He saw 0.2 innings of action and gave up three runs on five hits. 
  • Bryson Lonsbury entered the fourth with no outs. He tossed 4.0 innings, fanned five batters, and finished with a 9.00 ERA. 
  • Michael Bohlen came in for relief to start the bottom of the eighth. He saw an inning of action, gave up one hit and fanned a lone batter. 

KEY MOMENTS 

  • The Norse started off hot as Doersching hit a solo shot to left field to take the lead early in the opening inning. 
  • With two outs in the bottom of the first, UIC responded with four runs of its own. The first came on a RBI single through the right side, two were scored on a 2-RBI single to centerfield and another on an RBI single to left. 
  • In Northern Kentucky's half of the third, Doersching hit a 2-RBI homerun to left field, his second of the day. 
  • The Flames responded again with a pair of runs, this time by way of a double toward center and a RBI fly out to left field, respectively. 
  • In the bottom of the fourth, UIC scored four runs, three of which were earned, making it 10-3 Flames. 
  • NKU scored an unearned run in the sixth by way of a walked batter with the bases loaded. 
  • UIC scored a lone run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh. 
  • With a pair of outs in the eighth inning, Moss hit a 2-RBI single up the middle. Two batters later, Wakeham hit a 2-RBI single of his own. 
  • Northern Kentucky scored three runs in the top of the ninth, but ultimately fell short of a comeback as Wakeham flied out to centerfield, ending the game. 

 
UP NEXT  
Northern Kentucky will remain in Chicago for a doubleheader on Friday against UIC. Game one is set for seven innings and will see first pitch at 2 p.m. Game two will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Both games can be seen on ESPN3.
