Milwaukee defeats @NKUNorseBSB in both games of a doubleheader

FRANKLIN, Wisc. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (17-27, 14-21 Horizon League) was swept by Milwaukee (19-28, 16-20 Horizon League), by scores of 5-4 and 12-7 in a Sunday doubleheader at Franklin Field.  
GAME 1: Milwaukee 5, Northern Kentucky 4
AT THE PLATE ON THE MOUND
  • Noah Richardson (L, 3-2) tossed a complete game, yielding five runs on nine hits and three walks.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Both sides scored their first run in the fourth inning. Northern Kentucky led off the inning with a pair of walks from Andrew Bacon and Billy Marion and Treyvin Moss advanced the duo a base apiece with a groundout. With just one out, Gick put the ball into play, flying out to right field to plate one.
  • Odom led off the next frame by crushing a ball to left, allowing Northern Kentucky to retake the lead, 2-1.
  • After Odom's at-bat, Hedges singled and Griffin Doersching was intentionally walked, while a Bacon groundout toward third advanced both. With runners on second and third, Wakeham pulled off a single down the right-field line to score two more.
  • Milwaukee added three runs in the fifth to trim its deficit to one run.
  • The Panthers followed up with two more runs an inning later to win the game.
GAME 2: Milwaukee 12, Northern Kentucky 7
AT THE PLATE
  • Doersching went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, driving in two runs.
  • Moss was 1-for-4, batting in two as well.  
  • Hedges (1-for-3, 2 BB,, RBI), Marion (1-for-4), Wakeham (1-for-3, RBI), Gick (1-for-4) and Odom (1-for-3, 2B) also recorded hits.
ON THE MOUND
  • Nick Noble (L, 1-4) went three innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and a couple of walks.
  • J.T. McGee recorded two outs in relief, giving up four runs on two hits and three walks.
  • Kurt Lange faced one batter and walked them.
  • Bryce Smith worked the mound for 1.2 innings. Two runs plated on his watch through three hits and a walk.
  • Tyler Ollier dished for 1.1 innings, yielding a run on a hit and two walks.
  • Bryson Lonsbury closed out the final 1.1 innings with scoreless relief.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Milwaukee added four runs in the opening inning and followed with another in the second, jumping out to a 5-0 advantage.
  • NKU loaded the bases through a Hedges single, a double by Doersching and a walk by Marion in the third. Wakeham and Moss each batted sacrifice flies to plate one each.
  • A Thomas walk and a pair of wild pitches allowed a groundout by Fisher to score another an inning later. NKU made it a one-run deficit after Odom doubled down the left-field line later in the frame, stole third and made it home through a groundout from Hedges.
  • Milwaukee fired back with another four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
  • A leadoff walk in the seventh by Hedges, followed by back-to-back singles by Moss and Wakeham added a run, making it 11-5 Milwaukee.
  • The Panthers added another run in their half of the seventh.
  • A couple of walks by Odom and Hedges in the ninth led to two more runs for NKU as Doersching doubled to right-center.
UP NEXT
  • The Norse wrap up the regular season with four games against UIC at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex this coming weekend. Game one will take place on Friday at noon and will air on ESPN+.
