HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky baseball team (17-28, 14-22 Horizon League) fell to UIC (26-16, 25-11 Horizon League), 8-6, at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex on Friday afternoon.    

AT THE PLATE 

ON THE MOUND 

  • Ben Gerl pitched the first five innings for the Norse, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks.  
  • Bryson Lonsbury (L, 0-4) closed out the final four innings of work, giving up three runs, four hits and two walks.  

KEY MOMENTS 

  • After UIC plated a run in the first, NKU added two of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Marion reached through a four-pitch walk and Doersching crushed a no-doubter to left-center on the first pitch he saw. 
  • Bacon led off the next inning with a homer that barely stayed fair down the left-field line, making it 3-1 Norse.  
  • UIC plated four runs in the third.  
  • Hedges, Doersching and Marion led off the bottom of the third with a single, a walk and another single, respectively, to load things up. Wakeham put one in play on the following at-bat, sacrifice flying for another score.  
  • The Flames added another run in the sixth inning.  
  • NKU tied things back up in the seventh at six runs apiece. Doersching, Marion and Wakeham all singled, allowing a wild pitch to bring Doersching home.  
  • A two-run homer gave UIC its final lead in the eighth inning.
