LOUISVILLE, Ky. – An aggressive Northern Kentucky attack led to a high volume of kills, but Northern Kentucky was unable to overcome Missouri in a straight-set-setback (24-26, 22-25, 20-25). The Norse fall to 2-2, while the Tigers improve to 1-4.
STATS LEADERS
- Brinkmann finished with her third-straight double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. She now has 30 double-doubles in her career.
- Anna Burke notched a career-high 22 digs, at an impressive 7.3 digs per set.
- Joy Banks registered 10 kills behind a .269 hitting percentage.
- Sequoia Hunt hit .357 en route to eight kills in the match.
- Katy Yopko had 22 assists.
FIRST SET SUMMARY
- Banks contributed five kills to pace an attack that registered 18 kills in the set, but the Norse fell, 26-24.
- Brinkmann (4), Briggs (3), Abby Kanakry (3) and Hunt (2) also contributed multiple terminations.
- Burke picked up 11 scoops in the set.
- Mizzou led by as many as five on several occasions throughout the early portions.
- Northern Kentucky fought back to tie it at 19 and then again at 24, but the Tigers earned the next two points to take the set, 26-24.
- NKU finished with an 18-14 advantage in kills, but had three more attack errors (7-4) than the Tigers.
SECOND SET SUMMARY
- NKU built a five-point advantage, but Mizzou whittled it away and tied the frame at 16.
- The Tigers took the lead, then extended it to four, 21-17, and went on for the 25-22 win.
- Brinkmann had six kills, as NKU once again held an advantage in terminations, 17-14, but committed three more attack errors (5-2) and four more service errors (5-1) than Missouri.
THIRD SET SUMMARY
- NKU had its worst hitting performance of the day in the third set despite still registering 13 kills. Eight hitting errors led to a .098 hitting percentage.
- Meanwhile, MU hit .275 in the set with 15 kills and four errors.
- The set was tight early and tied at 18-all when Mizzou went on a quick four-point spurt to take a comfortable lead before winning 25-20.
MATCH NOTES
- Northern Kentucky finished with a 48-43 advantage in total terminations. However, it had 20 hitting errors compared to 10 for Mizzou.
- While the Norse also had more aces, 4-2, they also had more serving errors, 11-4.
- The Tigers out-blocked NKU, 7-0, marking the first time since at least the 2015-16 season the Norse failed to record a block.
- Brinkmann has 34 kills through the first seven sets of the tournament (4.86 kps).
- Burke's 22 digs are a new career high, bettering her mark set last Saturday against Ohio (21).
- Banks has now registered double-figure kill totals in back-to-back matches with 12 on Friday and 10 on Saturday.
- Yopko is also humming along in NKU's 6-2 system. She has distributed 44 assists through the first two tournament matches, averaging 6.3 aps.
