@NKUNorseWBB begins road trip with UIC

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball begins a three-game road trip Tuesday afternoon, as the Norse will face the UIC Flames in a game that is being made up from its original date of Jan. 2.

NORSE Breakdown
• Northern Kentucky enters this three-game road trip after splitting the previous week 1-1 against Milwaukee and Green Bay. NKU took down the Panthers inside BB&T Arena by a score of 61-53, and was tripped up by the Phoenix at 67-58 later that week.
Khamari Mitchell-Steen was named the Nike® Horizon League Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for a second consecutive week for the week of Jan. 24 - Jan. 30.
• NKU currently sits at 14-4 overall with a 8-3 record in Horizon League play. This is the best all-time start in the NCAA Division l era for the Norse, and the best Horizon League start for Northern Kentucky as well.
Lindsey Duvall's incredible streak of scoring in double-digits in every single game she has appeared in as a member of the Norse continued last week, as her streak is now up to 37 consecutive games.
•  Duvall currently ranks second overall in the Horizon League in scoring average with 18.3 points per game. Duvall is first in the conference in total points however, with 329. She also leads the league in minutes per game at 35.1.
Grayson Rose currently leads the Horizon League in rebounding with 10.1 boards per game, and leads in the conference in total rebounds with 182. She additionally leads the conference in total blocked shots with 46, and leads in block shots per game at 2.6 this season.
•  Rose is tied for 14th overall in the nation in total blocks with 46. She is also ranked 16th in the country in blocks per game at 2.56. She has been a force on the glass this season, ranking 38th in the nation in total rebounds with 182. She ranks 33rd overall in rebounds per game with at 10.1 as well.
•  Mitchell-Steen currently ranks third overall in the Horizon League in total steals with 35.
Kailee Davis was named the Nike Horizon League Freshman of the Week during the week of Jan. 10-16.
• Turner was named the Nike Horizon League Player of the Week during the week of Nov. 20-28.
• Duvall was named the Nike Horizon League Player of the Week during the week of Dec. 6-12 and during the week for Dec. 27-Jan. 2.
• Duvall and Turner each received conference accolades with Duvall earning Horizon League Preseason All-League First Team and Turner getting an All-League Second Team nod.
• The Norse were picked to finish fourth in the 2021-22 Horizon League Preseason Coaches Poll.
• The Norse finished the 2020-21 season eighth overall in the Horizon League. NKU defeated Robert Morris in the first round of the conference tournament before falling to rival and number one seed Wright State in the quarterfinals.

Last Time Out
Northern Kentucky saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of Green Bay Saturday evening, 67-58. This was an incredibly tight game throughout the opening half of play, however the Phoenix were on fire from the floor in quarter number three, shooting 9-for-10 overall and out-scoring the Norse 26-14. NKU saw three players in double-figure scoring as Duvall led the team with 17, followed by Turner at 13 and Emmy Souder with 10 points. 

Scouting the Flames
UIC enters this week after dropping a pair of Horizon League games against both Cleveland State (54-45) and Purdue Fort Wayne (88-61). Leading the Flames offensively this season has been Jaida McCloud with 15.1 points per game. McCloud is also the teams leading rebounder, pulling down 6.5 boards per game, and the leading shot blocker with 19 overall. Kristian Young has provided some solid numbers for UIC as well averaging 9.1 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game and currently leads the program in steals with 33 total. 

Series Stuff
The Norse have controlled this series throughout its history both at home and when playing in Chicago to led the Flames 9-2 overall. NKU is currently 4-1 when playing on the road against the Flames, winning the last matchup in Chicago 88-46 on Jan. 20, 2020. Northern Kentucky is also undefeated against UIC when playing in Highland Heights at 5-0.
