This Week in Northern Kentucky Athletics: October 10 – October 16

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Championship season is approaching as we near the end of the Fall calendar for Northern Kentucky Athletics with another jam-packed week is on the docket! The Norse will be in action every single day again this week, highlighted by the return of men's and women's cross country, men's golf at local Xavier, home volleyball (Friday and Saturday), men's soccer (Saturday) and women's soccer (Sunday) matches, and the men's tennis program competes at the Ohio Valley Regionals.

Northern Kentucky returns to Highland Heights this weekend with a pair of Horizon League contests, starting with Robert Morris on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 PM ET inside Regents Hall. NKU turns right around the next day on Saturday, Oct. 15 to host Youngstown State at 4 PM in Regents as well. Friday's match against the Colonials will also celebrate Dig Pink Night and Saturday will feature NKU's DEI Night – Pride Game celebration.

The Norse got back on the right track last week, picking up conference road victories against IUPUI and Purdue Fort Wayne during the weekend after falling to rival Wright State in a midweek matchup. NKU swept through the Jags on Friday and then took down the Mastodons 3-1 to hold down third place in the Horizon League currently.

The Norse enter the weekend third in the conference and are just two games back of Horizon League leader Wright State.

NKU splits the week between road and home matches as the Norse first travel to face IUPUI in a Horizon League mid-week matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 PM ET. Northern Kentucky caps off the weekend with a home contest against conference foe Cleveland State on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 PM from Scudamore Field. Saturday's match will also be Alzheimer's Awareness Night for the Norse.

Northern Kentucky is coming off of two heartbreaking matches this past week; the first saw NKU fall to No. 17 ranked Ohio State on the road with the game-deciding goal coming in the 88th-minute for the Buckeyes, while the second featured the Norse battling back from a two-goal deficit before  Detroit Mercy snuck away with the victory with another late goal.
 
 
WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Northern Kentucky women's soccer program will be back in action with two games this week. First the Norse hit the road for a Thursday showdown against Oakland, followed by a special Senior Day celebration on Sunday versus Milwaukee.

Both contests will be streamed in front of a national audience on ESPN+. Sunday's Senior Day contest will also feature an Oktoberfest celebration to add to the festivites.


MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Friday at Wilmington - JennaStrong Classic (All Day)


The men's and women's Northern Kentucky cross country squads will run a full unit this week as the group will be split between the Bradley Pink Classic and Wilmington's JennaStrong Classic on Friday. It is the final regular season action for the Norse before the Horizon League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The field at the Bradley Pink Classic will feature a host of other Horizon programs as the Norse look to put the finishing touches on the regular season before the championship meet. The JennaStrong Classic will give NKU a chance to run a full squad to end their regular season campaign.

MEN'S GOLF
Monday at XU - Xavier Invitational (All Day): Live Results

Northern Kentucky looks to wrap up the 2022 Fall season this week, competing at the Xavier Invitational. XU will host this tournament from TPC River's End in Maineville, Ohio beginning on Monday, Oct. 10.

The Norse saw a fantastic outing last week at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State, where NKU finished fifth overall as a team. Northern Kentucky was led by senior Miles Parraco who finished in a tie for second while competing from the Lakewood Country Club with an overall score of 213.  
 
 
MEN'S TENNIS
Thursday – Sunday at ITA Ohio Valley Regionals (All Day): Tournament Page

The Norse conclude Fall competition at the ITA – Ohio Valley Regionals from Louisville, Ky. this week. NKU will compete against regional opponents from the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center and the tournament will be hosted by the University of Louisville.
