COLUMBUS – Northern Kentucky men's soccer was dealt a heartbreaking loss at the hands of nonconference opponent and No. 17 nationally ranked Ohio State Wednesday evening from the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
The Norse (3-6-1, 1-2-0 Horizon) were on the attack early against The Ohio State University (5-1-4, 1-1-1 Big Ten) with a pair of shots from Deryn Armstrong and a missed penalty kick from Sam Robinson put the pressure on the Buckeyes within the opening six minutes. OSU went on to net two first have goals to hold down a firm lead over the Norse heading into the break. Northern Kentucky came out swinging in the second half, first with Armstrong finding the back of the net in the 47' minute off the assist from Christian Sjølander. NKU was not finished there however, as it was Robinson's turn to find himself a goal and the equalizer just a minute later with the assist from Sjølander once again to even things up at 2-2. Ohio State however found their game-winner in the 88' minute on a shot that just got away from the Norse defense to cross the line into the goal for the 3-2 victory.
