This Week in Northern Kentucky Athletics: December 5 – December 11

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – With the weather starting to cool down, Northern Kentucky basketball is just heating up as the Norse will compete in three highly-anticipated contests this week. The NKU women's squad will host Eastern Kentucky on Thursday and Miami (OH) on Sunday inside Truist Arena as part of the I-75 Challenge while the men's program will head West for a clash with Washington State on Wednesday.

The Northern Kentucky men's basketball program will head West to take on Power Five and Pac 12 foe Washington State on Wednesday at 9 PM ET inside Beasley Coliseum. The Norse enter the non-conference clash winners of three straight games, which includes a perfect mark of 2-0 in Horizon League play as NKU collected victories over Youngstown State and Robert Morris last week.
 
As of press time on Monday, Northern Kentucky standouts Marques Warrick and Chris Brandon sit atop the national leaderboard. Entering the week, Warrick is fifth in the nation in made field goals (73), sixth in points scored (194) and 10th overall in points per game (21.6) while Brandon is second in the country in rebounds (105), fifth in rebounds per game (11.7), seventh in offensive rebounds per contest (4.11) and 15th in defensive boards per game (7.56).
 
It will be the first meeting in school history between the Norse and the Cougars.
 
NKU fans and supporters will be able to watch the contest on the Pac 12 Networks and listen to the game anywhere in the country on ESPN 1530.

Northern Kentucky enters this week after getting back on track this past Sunday, defeating a 6-1 Robert Morris squad with ease at 69-54 inside Truist Arena. Duvall led the Norse in this home victory with her fourth double-double of the season, totaling 18 points and 13 rebounds.
NKU currently sits at 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League as the Norse will host a pair of non-conference foes this week in the I-75 Challenge.
 
First Northern Kentucky will see Eastern Kentucky stop by Highland Heights on Thursday, Dec. 8 for a 7 PM ET tipoff. This game will feature 70's Night as well and fans will receive an exclusive Northern Kentucky women's basketball poster upon entry. The Norse are 10-5 all-time against EKU, having picked up a win over the Colonels last season on Nov. 14, 2021 by a final score of 76-61 in Highland Heights. This game is set to be broadcast on Bally Sports Ohio.
 
Wrapping up the I-75 Challenge will be a non-conference bout against Miami (OH) on Sunday, Dec. 11. This game is scheduled for a 2 PM ET start time, and will feature a "Hoopy" Holiday Toy Drive for fans to donate this holiday season. The Norse lead the all-time series against the Redhawks as well at 8-7, having last played one another last season on Nov. 24, 2021 as NKU was victorious at 70-59. The game will be streamed nationwide on ESPN+.
