@NKUNorseBSB Drops Season-Opener at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (0-1, 0-0 Horizon League) was downed by East Tennessee State (1-0, 0-0 SOCON) Friday afternoon at Thomas Stadium in Tennessee. 

AT THE PLATE 

  • Brennan Gick posted a huge opening day going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, 1 home run, 1 double and 1 run scored. 
  • Treyvin Moss turned in a three-hit day as well going 3-for-5 with 1 RBI. 
  • Brandon Tucker registered a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 on the day. 
  • Manny Vorhees and Liam McFadden-Ackman each tallied 1 RBI in the contest as well. 
  • Noah Fisher recorded a double on the day and would score a run as well. 
     

ON THE MOUND 

  • Kyle Klingenbeck (L, 0-1) got the start for NKU today, throwing 0.1 inning. 
  • Bryson Lonsbury pitched 2.2 innings today to relieve Klingenbeck. 
  • TJ Graves, Drew Switzer and Blaine Walters combined for 5.0 innings in relief as well.
  • Graves recorded two strikeouts for the Norse, facing 10 batters overall.
  • Switzer and Walers each held ETSU scoreless, and both totaled one strikeout as well. 
     

AROUND THE HORN

  • ETSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning to open the 2022 season. The Bucs posted two triples in the opening inning of play as well. 
  • The first run of 2022 for the Norse came from a Gick home run to left field that was crushed off the ETSU scoreboard. 
  • The Bucs pushed the lead out to 10-1 through three innings. 
  • Northern Kentucky saw a big inning of their own as the Norse totaled four runs in the fourth inning. 
  • Vorhees, McFadden-Ackman and Gick all drove in runs during this fourth inning. 
  • ETSU added to their lead in the fifth with a pair of RBI singles for a 12-5 advantage.
  • NKU's scoring ended with a run in both the eighth and ninth innings with doubles from Gick and Moss to drive in runs. 

UP NEXT 

  • Northern Kentucky will see the Buccaneers again tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. inside Thomas Stadium for game two of this road series.
