@NKUNorseSB prevails 4-2 in Canisius rematch

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Northern Kentucky ended the Upstate Classic on a high note with a 4-2 defeat of Canisius in Sunday's finale at Cyrill Stadium.

The Norse (6-4) went 2-3 in the Classic and snapped a three-game slide by defeating Canisius, the winner of the teams' prior meeting Saturday afternoon.

At the Plate In the Circle
  • Freshman Alicia Flores (2-1) fanned 12 batters in four innings. She allowed two runs, both earned, and four hits with one wild pitch.
  • Madisyn Eads took over in the top of the sixth and threw two scoreless innings. She quickly dispatched her first three batters (struck out looking, pop out, ground out) and held Canisius at bay in the seventh.
At a Glance
  • Norse junior Kaylee McGinn pinch ran for Jordan Jenkins in the bottom of the second. She reached second on a passed ball and scored on an error by the Golden Griffins.
  • A home run in the top of the third put Canisius on the board but NKU answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Charly Koehler, pinch running for Trinity Robertson, reached third on an Olivia Pastin double and scored soon after on Sophie Margelot's RBI bunt.
  • Pastin and Margelot also crossed home plate, giving NKU a 4-1 edge.
  • NKU surrendered one more run in the fifth but the Golden Griffins came no closer.
