HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team fought their way back to complete the comeback against Oakland Thursday afternoon inside BB&T Arena, picking up the conference win 66-62. The Norse improve to 19-7 overall and 13-6 in Horizon League play. The Golden Grizzlies drop to 12-14 this season and 10-9 in conference.
STATS LEADERS
- Ivy Turner and Lindsey Duvall each fueled the Norse offensive attack tonight, totaling 18 points apiece in the win.
- Duvall finished the game with a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds. She went on to dish out two assists as well.
- Turner's day ended with a game-high five assists, along with one steal and four rebounds also.
- Grayson Rose posted a double-figure scoring day for NKU, additionally totaling eight rebounds and a game-high three blocks in the win.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The opening quarter saw these two Horizon League programs deadlocked through the first media timeout, tied up at 9-9.
- Oakland exploded for a 12-2 scoring run against NKU over five minutes in the first period, holding a 17-11 advantage.
- Each team struggled to find rhythm early in the second quarter, as both went scoreless for over two minutes.
- The Norse defense began to step up, creating issues for Oakland, holding the visitors to just 4-for-18 (22.2 percent) shooting in the second quarter.
- The Golden Grizzlies dominated the glass in this first half, outrebounding the Norse 28-13.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Northern Kentucky and Oakland each found offensive strides in the third quarter, as NKU finished shooting 6-for-15 (40 percent) for the period and the Golden Grizzlies at 7-for-12 (58 percent).
- The fourth and final quarter opened with each squad playing heightened defense, with each going scoreless for nearly four minutes a piece.
- Duvall began to catch fire in the fourth as a converted and-one layup propelled the Norse into high gear with a burst of energy, leading 49-48.
- NKU posted a 14-5 scoring run during the fourth quarter with four minutes remaining to hold a 54-41 lead at the media timeout.
- Oakland generated a 5-0 run late in the fourth to tie up the contest at 58-58 overall.
- Made free throws from Rose and Duvall, along with a late Turner driving layup completed the comeback victory for Northern Kentucky, 66-62.
GAME NOTES
- Tonight's conference win gives Northern Kentucky 13 total Horizon League victories, the most-ever for the women's program since joining the conference. NKU totaled 12 wins just a few years ago during the 2019-20 season.
- Rose's eight boards tonight sees her move up to seventh all-time in NKU history with 810 total for her career.
- Duvall's double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds was her ninth of the season. This was also her 24th game scoring in double-digits and her ninth game pulling down 10 or more rebounds.
- Turner's 18 points tonight was her 20th game of the season with scoring in double-digits.
