@NKUNorseBSB downed by #7 Mississippi State in series finale

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (1-5, 0-0 Horizon League) was defeated by No. 7 Mississippi State (4-3, 0-0 SEC) on the road Sunday afternoon by a final score of 7-2. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Jayden Wakeham posted a solid day at the plate hitting 2-for-4 with an RBI. 
  • Manny Vorhees extended his hitting streak to six games after going 1-for-4 today, and added one walk and one run scored to his stat line. 
  • Griffin Kain and Brennan Gick each recorded one hit for the Norse, and Treyvin Moss tallied an RBI as well. 
     

ON THE MOUND 

  • Kaden Echeman (L, 0-1) get the start on the mound for NKU, throwing a total of 2.2 innings. Echeman recorded one strikeout along with allowing four earned runs and seven hits. 
  • Tyler Murphy relieved Echeman for 1.1 total innings, and would give up two earned runs on one hit during that time.
  • TJ Graves, Noah Richardson, Zach Haigis and Tyler Ollier all threw 1.0 inning in relief for the Norse, allowing zero runs and only three hits during those four innings. 
     

AROUND THE HORN

  • The Bulldogs were on the board first in game three, totaling three runs in the bottom of the second innings as multiple singles drove in MSU's runs.
  • Mississippi State increased the lead to 5-0 in the third after a two-run home run to left field. 
  • MSU capped their scoring in the bottom fo the fourth with another two-run homer, but this time to right field to lead 7-0.
  • Moss got Northern Kentucky on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Gick.
  • Wakeham drove in the final run of the game with a single to right center that saw Vorhees cross the plate to put the score at 7-2. 
 

UP NEXT 

  • Northern Kentucky baseball returns to Highland Heights, Ky. next as the Norse will host Butler in the 2022 home opener at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex on Tuesday, March 1 with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET).
