@NKUNorseBSB bounces Butler in home opener

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (2-5, 0-0 Horizon League) picked up the midweek nonconference win over Butler (3-4, 0-0 Big East) Tuesday afternoon from Bill Aker Baseball Complex. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Treyvin Moss posted a huge day for the Norse going 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBI, two runs and two doubles. 
  • Manny Vorhees continued his hot streak with a 3-for-4 day, totaling two runs driven in, one run scored and one double. 
  • John Odom recorded a three hit day for NKU also, including blasting a homer to spark the Norse scoring. Odom finished with two runs, and one RBI as well. 
  • Ryan Glass and Michael Hall each provided crucial home runs to fuel the Norse offense on the day as well.
     

ON THE MOUND 

  • Kyle Klingenbeck got the start for the Norse, tossing 1.0 inning, striking out two and allowing zero hits.
  • Bryson Lonsbury came on to throw 3.0 total innings for NKU. Lonsbury struck out one while only allowing one earned run and four hits. 
  • Zach Haigis relieved Lonsbury for 1.2 total innings, allowing 5 runs which were all unearned due to NKU's defensive struggles.  
  • Nick Noble (W, 1-0) picked up the win after throwing 2.1 innings and recording a game-high four strikeouts. 
  • Andrew Mulhern finished the game off for NKU with an inning of work, striking out two and allowing zero runs. 
     

AROUND THE HORN

  • Odom kick-started the Norse offense today with a home run to left field in the bottom of the second. Hall joined in the slugfest in the next at-bat with a homer over the center field wall. 
  • The Norse were not done in the second inning however as a RBI double from Vorhees and then the inning was capped off by a Glass two-run bomb to left center field. 
  • NKU continued to pour on the offense in the third, as Moss singled to center to drive in a pair of runs. Brennan Tucker went on to score on a wild pitch to put the NKU lead at 8-0. 
  • Butler began mounting their comeback in the top of the fourth, where they would ultimately score eight unanswered runs through the seventh inning to tie up the game. 
  • Northern Kentucky got right back into their groove in the bottom of the seventh, totaling four runs to retake the lead at 12-8. Hall managed to drive in the first run on a ground out. 
  • Moss provided a clutch double to right center field to see two runs cross the plate, which was followed up with a Vorhees single to center to score Moss. 
  • The NKU scoring was capped in the eighth inning as Griffin Kain drove in a run on a bunt single for the 13-8 lead.
