HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The No. 5 seeded Northern Kentucky women's basketball team began the postseason on the right foot, defeating No. 12 seed Detroit Mercy inside BB&T Arena Tuesday night by a final score of 73-50.
STATS LEADERS
- Emmy Souder led the Norse in total points tonight with 12 on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor. Souder also pulled down six rebounds, dished out one assists and totaled two steals in the win.
- The duo of Ivy Turner and Lindsey Duvall combined for 20 points on the night, with each totaling 10 a piece.
- Trinity Thompson displayed yet another strong game with eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
- Kennedy Igo chipped in eight points as well this evening and posted a game-high +/- of 23.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The Norse began to find their groove late in the opening quarter, posting a 9-2 scoring run anchored by Turner, Thompson and Khamari Mitchell-Steen
- Northern Kentucky continued to pour on the offense in the second period, as a 17-3 run shot NKU well ahead of the Titans in this conference tournament matchup.
- Duvall, Igo and Grayson Rose all drained three-pointers during this run over eight total minutes and Souder chipped in a pair of layups.
- NKU went on to shoot 10-for-15 in the second quarter, 66.7 percent compared to Detroit Mercy only shooting 22.2 percent.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Northern Kentucky continued to dominate well into the second half, generating a 16-8 scoring run for the majority of the third period.
- NKU saw a total of six players score points during this scoring run.
- The Norse looked to maintain their double-digit lead heading into the fourth quarter, as UDM and NKU tied 16-16 in the final period.
- Kailee Davis, Mitchell-Steen, Souder, Turner, Igo and Thompson all scored during the fourth period, as NKU completed the team victory over Detroit Mercy to advance to the next round of the Horizon League Tournament.
GAME NOTES
- Today's tournament victory puts the Norse at 21 total victories this season, which is the most all-time for Northern Kentucky women's basketball since becoming a NCAA Division I member.
- Souder's 12 points tonight is her ninth overall game this year of scoring in double-figures.
- NKU improves to 19-1 now when outrebounding an opponent. The Norse grabbed a total of 40 rebounds tonight, compared to Detroit's 33.
- The Norse also improve to 8-1 overall when scoring between 70-79 points after totaling 73 tonight against the Titans.
- Northern Kentucky has now won 11 straight games against Detroit Mercy, including a 7-1 record when playing in Highland Heights, Ky.

No. 5 seed Northern Kentucky advances to the KEEPS Horizon League Tournament Quarterfinals next, on Thursday, March 3. NKU will meet No. 4 seed Cleveland State in Cleveland, Ohio at 5:30 p.m. (ET) as the Norse look to continue this incredible season well into March.
