@NKUNorseBSB drops game one at USC-Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (4-8, 0-0 Horizon League) was defeated in game one at USC-Upstate (9-4, 0-0 Big South) Friday afternoon by a final score of 0-0. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Michael Hall led the Norse on offense going 3-for-5 on the day with 2 RBI, 1 run and 1 triple. 
  • Liam McFadden-Ackman and Noah Fisher posted multi-hit days with McFadden-Ackman going 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and Fisher going 2-for-5 and 2 RBI. 
  • Lucas Gulczynski belted the only home run on the day for the Norse, in a pinch-hit effort in the top of the ninth inning. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Kyle Klingenbeck (L, 0-3) started on the hill for NKU today, throwing 1.1 total innings recording three strikeouts, eight hits and nine earned runs. 
  • Blaine Walters posted a relief appearance for the Norse, totaling 1.1 innings in today's game as well. Walters allowed two walks, two hits and five earned runs. 
  • Zach Haigis came on for 0.2 innings allowing two earned runs, one hit and one walk. Haigis did total one strikeout as well. 
  • Michael Bohlen provided 2.0 innings of work totaling one strikeout and allowed seven hits and three earned runs. 
  • Tyler Murphy and Drew Switzer combined for the final 2.2 innings, shutting down the Spartans for zero runs allowed, one hit and one walk combined. Murphy tallied two strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of work as well. 

AROUND THE HORN
  • USC-Upstate jumped on the scoreboard first in the bottom half of the opening inning with a two-run double to left field. 
  • The Spartans their scoring ways in the bottom of the second, totaling seven runs in the inning which included a three-run homer to center field. 
  • USC-Upstate tacked on five additional runs in th bottom of the third to hold a 14-0 lead over the Norse.
  • The home squad added five more runs in the fourth as well to extend the lead out to 19-0.
  • The Norse got on the board in the top of the fifth with a Vorhees single to shortstop to drive in Hall. 
  • McFadden-Ackman drove in another run for the Norse in the sixth with a single through the left side to see Noah Fisher score. 
  • Hall continued NKU's run production in the top of the sixth with a triple to right field to see two runs cross the plate and the score at 19-4. 
  • Fisher added another Norse run in the seventh inning with a single to center field to bring home both Griffin Kain and Vorhees.
  • NKU capped off its scoring with a pinch-hit solo homer from Lucas Gulczynski to left field. 
  • USC-Upstate took game one by a final score of 20-7.
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball is back in action tomorrow for game two of this series against USC-Upstate from Spartanburg, South Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET) from Harley Park.
