@NKUNorseBSB picks up 6-5 win at USC-Upstate

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (5-8, 0-0 Horizon League) earned the game two victory in the series against USC-Upstate (9-5. 0-0 Big South) Saturday afternoon by a final score of 6-5. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Michael Hall continued to produce at the plate in this series, leading NKU to victory by going 3-for-5 overall with four RBI and one double. 
  • Manny Vorhees, Noah Fisher and Jayden Wakeham each chipped in multi-hit days for the Norse with two hits each. 
  • Fisher contributed a triple with Vorhees adding a double to the NKU offensive attack. 
  • Griffin Kain showed off his speed in this matchup by recording two stolen bases. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Ben Gerl  started on the bump for the Norse, throwing a total of 4.0 innings, totaling one strikeout and allowing five hits and five earned runs. 
  • Bryson Lonsbury (W, 1-0) picked up his first win of the season after tossing 5.0 overall shutout innings, only allowing two hits and striking out one as well. 
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • Northern Kentucky was the first to strike in this contest, as Wakeham singled through the ride side to score Fisher.
  • NKU continued its first inning surge with a Hall double down the left field line to drive in three total. 
  • USC-Upstate cut the Norse lead in half with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. 
  • Treyvin Moss was able to drive in a run in the top of the fourth with a ground out to second which scored Kain and giving NKU a 5-3 lead.
  • The Spartans tied up the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth at 5-5 on a pair of RBI singles. 
  • The Norse saw what would be the winning run cross the plate in the top of the seventh on a Hall single up the middle to bring in Wakeham for the 6-5 lead.

  • Northern Kentucky baseball concludes the series with USC-Upstate tomorrow, Sunday, March 13 from Spartanburg, South Carolina with first pitch now scheduled for 2 p.m (ET).
