@NKUNorseBSB drops series to USC-Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (5-9, 0-0 Horizon League) was defeated in the series finale by a score of 6-4 against USC-Upstate (10-5. 0-0 Big South) Sunday afternoon. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Jayden Wakeham, Brennan Gick and Michael Hall all recorded multi-hit days for the Norse this afternoon.
  • Wakeham and Gick each tallied one RBI a piece, which included a double from Wakeham and a solo homer from Gick.
  • Treyvin Moss and Noah Fisher each chipped in RBI's for NKU on the day, with Moss recording a triple as well. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Kaden Echeman (L, 0-3) got the start for the Norse, throwing 5.0 total innings while striking out three. Echeman only gave up two hits during his work on the mound, along with two earned runs.
  • Noah Richardson (2.2 innings) and Andrew Mulhern (0.1 inning) finished the remaining three innings on the hill for the Norse. 
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • The Spartans struck first in game three with a double down the left field line to score two in the bottom of the first inning. USC-Upstate tacked on one more in the opening inning on a RBI ground out to shortstop. 
  • The Norse countered with a Wakeham double down the left field line to drive in Treyvin Moss to cut the lead to just 3-1.
  • The home squad extended their lead out to 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single through the left side.
  • NKU so a burst of momentum with a Gick home run to right center field in the top of the eighth to put the score at 5-2. 
  • USC-Upstate got a run back in the bottom half of the eighth however to push the lead out to 6-2.
  • Northern Kentucky did not go down without a fight as a RBI triple down the right field line from Moss scored one, and then a Fisher single to left drove in another to put the score at 6-4 in favor of the Spartans.
  • NKU unfortunately could not complete its comeback and fell to USC-Upstate, 6-4. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball will next take on Louisville in a nonconference matchup on Tuesday, March 15 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. (ET).
