@NKUNorseBSB falls at Louisville

LOUISVILLE – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (5-10, 0-0 Horizon League) was taking down in nonconference action by Louisville (12-4. 0-0 ACC) Tuesday afternoon by a score of 12-8. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Treyvin Moss led the Norse at the plate going 2-for-4 today with three RBI and one walk.
  • Liam McFadden-Ackman turned in a 2-for-4 day as well with two runs driven in and two runs scored.
  • Griffin Kain went a perfect 2-for-2 in this matchup, with one double and two runs scored also. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Nick Noble started on the mound for the Norse, throwing a total of 1.1 innings after facing 13 batters and allowing five earned runs. Noble recorded one strikeout and one walk as well. 
  • Tyler Murphy provided 1.1 innings of relief, giving up two earned runs and two hits.
  • TJ Graves came on to chip in 2.0 innings of relief next, allowing only one earned run and striking out one Cardinal as well. 
  • Tyler Ollier finished the day tossing 1.1 total innings, allowing three hits and zero earned runs after facing seven total batters. 
  • Andrew Mulhern ended the day on the hill for NKU pitching 2.0 innings, while recording one strikeout and allowing two earned runs.  
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • The Cardinals were the first on the scoreboard in today's matchup, totaling two runs in the bottom of the first with a solo homer to right field and an RBI double to left center.
  • The Norse tied things up after a two-run single up the middle in the top of the second inning from McFadden-Ackman drove in both Michael Hall and Jayden Wakeham.
  • Moss gave Northern Kentucky a 4-2 advantage with a two-run single to center field to score McFadden-Ackman and Brennan Gick.
  • Louisville countered right back in the bottom half of the inning with four total runs of their own to reclaim the lead at 6-4.
  • NKU chipped away at the home lead in the top of the 3rd with a Hall RBI single to center field.
  • The Cardinals answered with two additional runs in the bottom of the inning to post an 8-5 lead. 
  • Manny Vorhees continued the Norse scoring in the fourth with an RBI single to shortstop which saw Griffin Kain cross the plate.
  • Louisville went on to score another run in the bottom of the fifth, but Moss would drive in yet another run in the top of the sixth to put the score at just 9-7. 
  • The Cards tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth on a bunt single with a runner in scoring position to lead 10-7. Louisville added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh as well.
  • Brandon Tucker knocked in another run in the top of the eighth as McFadden-Ackman crossed home plate once again. NKU continued to threaten in the inning with bases loaded, but the Cardinals managed to get out of the jam and still hold the 12-8 lead. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball will hit the field next on Friday, March 18 as the Norse travel to Chicago to take on UIC in the first Horizon League series of the 2022 season. Game one between the Norse and the Flames is scheduled for a 5:05 p.m. (ET) / 4:05 p.m. (CT) start as well.
