CHICAGO – Northern Kentucky Baseball opened Horizon League play Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader against UIC on the road. The Norse took game one by a final score of 7-6, while the Flames captured game two in extra innings by a score of 4-3. NKU improves to 6-11 overall this season and 1-1 in conference action.
GAME ONE: NKU 7 - UIC 6
AT THE PLATE
- Noah Fisher led the Norse going 2-for-5 on the day with four total RBI, one home run and one run scored.
- Treyvin Moss turned in an impressive performance to start the day, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, three runs scored and a home run.
- Manny Vorhees and Brennan Gick each recorded multi-hit days for the Norse and each totaled one run scored as well.
ON THE MOUND
- Ben Gerl (W, 2-2) picked up the win in game one, tossing 6.1 total innings for NKU. Gerl recorded three strikeouts and allowed four earned runs in the victory.
- Andrew Mulhern and Tyler Ollier combined for an inning of relief after Gerl.
- Bryson Lonsbury (S, 2) came on for the save opportunity, throwing 1.2 innings of relief to close out the game. Lonsbury shut down the Flames, only allowing two hits, struck out one and allowing zero runs.
AROUND THE HORN
- UIC surged ahead early with a 3-0 lead through the first inning.
- Northern Kentucky got one back in the top of the third with a Fisher single to left field.
- The Flames extended their lead out to 5-1 with a solo homer and a sacrifice fly.
- NKU began their comeback in the top of the fifth as Fisher continued his hot streak with a three-run blast over the center field wall.
- Moss tied up the game in the top of the sixth inning with a sac fly to right field to drive in Gick.
- The Norse took over the lead in the seventh as John Odom singled to left field to see Glass cross the plate for the 6-5 lead.
- NKU capped the comeback off with a solo homer from Moss to right field and the Norse would take game one 7-6 overall.
GAME TWO: UIC 4 - NKU 3 (10 inn.)
AT THE PLATE
- Ryan Glass posted a huge day offensively going 3-for-5 with one home run, one double, two RBI and two runs scored.
- Jayden Wakeham chipped in an RBI for the Norse as well, as he went 1-for-4 overall on the day.
- Treyvin Moss and Brennan Gick each recorded hits for Northern Kentucky and both tallied one stolen base a piece also.
ON THE MOUND
- Kyle Klingenbeck got the start for the Norse in game two, throwing a total of 5.1 innings. Klingenbeck posted a season-high seven strikeouts this afternoon, and allowed just three earned runs as well.
- Kaden Echeman tossed an inning of relief where he faced five total batters, and recorded one strikeout.
- Nick Noble (L, 1-2) was up next for NKU out of the bullpen, throwing 2.2 innings and allowed zero runs in the process. Noble faced 10 overall batters and struck out five of them as well.
AROUND THE HORN
- UIC was on the board first in game two, scoring on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first for the 1-0 lead.
- Wakeham evened things up for the Norse with an RBI single to left field to dive in Glass in the top of the sixth.
- The Flames managed to score two more runs off a single to right field and a wild pitch to hold the 3-1 advantage.
- A two-run homer from Glass tied up the game once again in the top of the eighth. Glass belted his third home run of the season, this time to left center field.
- UIC ultimately took the second game of the day in extra innings, with a bases loaded RBI single to left field in the bottom of the 10th for the 4-3 win.

Northern Kentucky Baseball will continue playing on the road with a trip to Richmond, Kentucky next as NKU will take on Eastern Kentucky in a midweek nonconference bout. This matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, March 22 with first pitch set for 4 p.m. (ET).
