@NKUNorseSB downs Green Bay for first #HLSB win

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Northern Kentucky won its first Horizon League game of the season Saturday, defeating Green Bay 6-1 at King Park.

The outing was delayed by Green Bay weather but the wait was worth it for a Norse team that racked up eight hits and broke open the game in the fourth inning.

NKU (10-15, 1-3 Horizon League) returns to King Park for a double-header Sunday. The Norse play the Phoenix (7-12, 0-1) at noon ET and again at 2 p.m. ET.

At the Plate
  • NKU hit five doubles throughout and out-hit Greenbay 8-2.
  • Kaylee McGinn had a strong showing with two-RBI double and a run scored. Her double to center field in the fourth inning ensured a 2-0 lead.
  • Megan Lenhart went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.
  • Maddie Lacer and Sophie Margelot both contributed a RBI.
In the Circle
  • Madisyn Eads (5-5) went the distance in the victory, her third full-game performance this season. She struck out three, walked four and allowed just two hits and one run.
At a Glance
  • The Norse unlocked a scoreless game in the top of the fourth inning. Olivia Pastin reached first on an error and advanced to third on Megan Lenhart's double down the left field line. Kaylee McGinn's double to center field scored Lenhart and Pastin for a 2-0 lead. NKU increased its advantage to 3-0 on Sophie Margelot's RBI-single, which scored McGinn.
  • The Phoenix changed pitchers in the top of the fifth, bringing in Abby Freismuth with two Norse runners on base. Jenna O'Hair doubled, followed by Kendyl McKeough's double, triggering the change in the circle. The Norse amassed seven hits, including four doubles, against starting pitcher Brittany Baneck.
  • The Norse didn't skip a beat after the pitching change. Pastin reached on another error, a dropped pop-up to the short stop, which loaded the bases. Freismuth walked Maddie Lacer, bringing home O'Hair for the 4-0 lead. Megan Lenhart drove in two more runs with a shot to left center, allowing the Norse to surge ahead 6-0.
  • The Phoenix scored in the bottom of the fifth but NKU led 6-1 by the inning's end and the score did not change from there on out.
