@NKUNorseBSB comeback falls short against Wright State

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (6-14, 1-3 Horizon) was defeated in game two of this conference series by rival Wright State (8-12, 3-2 Horizon) Saturday afternoon by a final score of 14-11. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Brennan Gick turned in a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-5 overall with three runs, two RBI, one double and a home run.
  • Jayden Wakeham showed off some power at the dish with home run today, hitting 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored. 
  • Manny Vorhees went 1-for-4 on the day, totaling a team-high three RBI's with a double and one run scored. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Kyle Klingenbeck (L, 1-4) got the start for the Norse, pitching a total of 4.0 innings during game two. Klingenbeck recorded six strikeouts against the Raiders, while allowing seven hits and seven overall runs. 
  • The NKU bullpen rounded out the remaining 5.0 innings with a combined effort from Bryson Lonsbury, Tyler Murphy and TJ Graves
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • The Raiders struck first to open game two, scoring four runs in the top of the first which included a three-run home run. 
  • The Norse answered right back with a two-run bomb from Wakeham to left center field in the bottom half of the first.
  • WSU tacked on two more runs in the second inning after a RBI double and single to right field.
  • Northern Kentucky cut the Wright State lead to just 6-4 in the bottom of the third with back-to-back RBI ground outs from Vorhees and Ryan Glass
  • Wright State broke open the scoring in the top of the fifth with a five-run inning to lead the Norse 12-4.
  • NKU began mounting its' comeback in the bottom of the sixth, posting four runs in the inning which was capped off by a two-run Vorhees double to right field.
  • Brennan Gick and John Odom drove in runs in the seventh to close the gap to just 13-10.
  • WSU extended their lead to 14-10 with a solo home run in the top of the ninth.
  • Gick homered to kick-off the bottom of the ninth, cutting the WSU lead down to just 14-11, but the Raiders went on to close out the game for the win. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball concludes the series with rival Wright State tomorrow, Sunday, March 27 as the Norse look to avoid the sweep by the Raiders. This Horizon League showdown is set for 12 p.m. (ET) from Bill Aker Baseball Complex as well.
