@NKUNorseBSB swept by Wright State

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (6-15, 1-4 Horizon) was swept in the series by Horizon League rival Wright State (9-12, 4-2 Horizon) Sunday afternoon by a final score of 17-10. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Jayden Wakeham continued to produce on offense with a 3-for-5 day with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored. 
  • Treyvin Moss, Michael Hall and Brandon Tucker each chipped in multiple hit days for the Norse as well.
  • Moss posted a team-high three RBI in the matchup, which included two doubles and a sacrifice fly. 
  • Tucker added a double to his stat sheet along with two runs scored, one RBI, one double and two walks. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Kaden Echeman (L, 0-5) got his second start of the week for the Norse after previously starting against Eastern Kentucky during the midweek game. Echeman went 3.0 total innings after striking out two and allowing six hits, six earned runs and five walks.
  • Nick Noble provided an inning of relief where he struck out two Raiders, but allowed five earned runs and two walks.
  • Andrew Mulhern was next up for Northern Kentucky, tossing 2.0 total innings, and was the only Norse pitcher on the day not to allow any runs. Mulhern faced 10 total batters in his multiple innings of work and allowed zero hits.
  • Michael Bohlen and Drew Switzer combined for the final 3.0 innings in this conference matchup, and allowed a combined five runs to finish off the game. 
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • The Norse jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after a Hall double to right center drove in Moss for the 1-0 lead.
  • WSU quickly countered in the top of the second with a pair of runs to take control of this rivalry game.
  • The Raiders continued to ride the wave of offensive momentum they had seen all weekend, posting 10 additional runs by the sixth inning to lead NKU 12-1.
  • Northern Kentucky saw a big inning of their own in the sixth however, scoring six runs to cut the lead down to just 12-7. 
  • A double to right center kick-started this scoring run, followed by a John Odom bases loaded walk, an RBI bunt single from Tucker, a two-run double to center from Moss, and a sac fly from Gick.
  • Wright State seemed to have an answer for every Norse move, as the Raiders belted a two-run homer in the seventh to extend their lead back out to 14-7.
  • The Norse continued to chip away at the Raider lead, but Wright State was right there to counter and ultimately take game three and complete the series sweep at 17-10 by the final out. 
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Brennan Gick continues to find ways to get on base as he is currently on a 14-game reached base streak. Gick is additionally on an eight-game hitting streak as well. 
  • Moss' three RBI today gives him six total multiple RBI games this season, which leads Northern Kentucky. Moss also leads the Norse in multi-hit games, with a total of eight this year. 
  • Hall was on fire offensively during this Horizon League series, hitting 6-for-10 overall with five runs scored, one RBI and four walks. 


UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball remains at home for their next contest, as the Norse welcome Morehead State to Highland Heights for a conference bout on Tuesday, March 29. First pitch between NKU and the Eagles is scheduled for 3 p.m. from the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
